Background: The influence of perioperative blood transfusion (PBT) on postsurgical survival of patients with different stage of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is not well clarified. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of PBT on survival outcomes of different stage of HCC patients.
Methods: Consecutive patients who underwent liver resection for HCC between January 2009 and November 2015 were identified from an HCC prospective database in authors' center.
Heat shock proteins are a highly conserved group of cellular proteins and are up-expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). As a member of the heat shock protein-90 family, glycoprotein 96 (gp96) modulates immunity and tumorigenicity, is increased during the development of HCC from normal liver tissue, and is considered a pro-oncogenic chaperone. Background: Hilar cholangiocarcinoma (HCCA) is a devastating malignancy arising from the bifurcation of the hepatic duct, whether combined vascular resection benefits HCCA patients is controversial. This study was undertaken to assess the effect of combined vascular resection in HCCA patients and to analyze the prognostic factors.
Methods: Clinical data of 154 HCCA patients who had been treated from January 2005 to December 2012 were retrospectively analyzed.
The pathogenesis of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-induced acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF), a serious and prevalent medical condition, is not clear, particularly with regard to which proteins are expressed in the course of the disease. The aim of the present study was to identify the differences in hepatic tissue protein expression between normal human subjects and patients with ACLF using isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification (iTRAQ)-based proteomic analysis and to verify the results using western blot analysis. The iTRAQ method was used to analyze the protein contents of hepatic tissue samples from 3 patients with HBV-induced ACLF and 3 normal healthy subjects.

Objective: To evaluate the association between SLC22A1 expression and the outcomes of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients.
Methods: A tissue microarray of 303 HCC and matched adjacent noncancerous liver tissues (ANLTs) were constructed. The expression of SLC22A1 was tested by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and scored by two pathologists according to a 12-score scale (a score>6 was defined as high expression, and a score≤6 as low expression).

However, the resection plane for right-sided stones distributed within 2 segments is obstacle because of atrophy-hypertrophy complex formation of the liver and difficult dissection of segmental pedicle within the Glissonean plate by conventional approach. Objective: To investigate the changes in transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-beta1)/Smads signaling pathway in rats with chemical hepatocarcinogenesis.
Methods: Fresh diethylnitrosamine (DENA) solution was administered in SD rats to induce hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The protein expressions of TGF-beta1, phosphorylated Smad2, Smad4 and Smad7 were detected in these rats with immunohistochemistry, and the mRNA expression of Smad4 was evaluated with RT-PCR.
Objective: To explore the inducing method for hepatic carcinoma in rats and the operative technique in establishment of orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) model in rats with induced hepatic tumor.
Methods: Hepatic carcinoma was induced by diethylnitrosamine (DENA) in rats. Then OLT was performed, using a two-cuff vessel anastomosis method modified from that introduced by Kamada, with reconstruction of hepatic artery.
Objective: To observe the effect of octreotide (OCT) on inhibiting hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and investigate its mechanisms.
Methods: Nude mice bearing xenografts in situ were treated with OCT or saline control for 7 weeks since tumor implantation. The immunohistochemistry for somatostatin receptor 2 (SSTR2), cMet, transforming growth factor beta1 (TGFbeta1), phospho-Smad2, Smad4 and Smad7 was performed.

Aim: To study the surgical treatment effect and outcome of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with bile duct tumor thrombi (BDTT).
Methods: Fifty-three consecutive HCC patients with BDTT admitted in our department from July 1984 to December 2002 were reviewed retrospectively. The clinical data, diagnostic methods, surgical procedures and outcome of these patients were collected and analyzed.
