- Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a major health issue in China, contributing to approximately 80% of global cases; this study aimed to analyze its epidemiological trends using data from 2004 to 2019.
- Over the study period, there were 43,569 reported cases of JE, with a notable decline in annual incidence rates from 0.4171/100,000 in 2004 to 0.0298/100,000 in 2019, and deaths also showing a decreasing trend despite some fluctuations.
- The findings highlight the need for enhanced disease surveillance, vaccination efforts, and public awareness, especially among the 0-14 age group, which constitutes nearly 80% of cases
