Article Synopsis
  • A 35-year-old woman with recurrent pancreatitis was admitted to the hospital, where imaging showed ansa pancreatica and a major duodenal papilla adenoma.
  • During an endoscopic procedure, the adenoma was removed using a hybrid technique, while a pancreatic stent was placed to prevent further pancreatitis episodes.
  • This case is unique as it marks the first report linking a major papilla adenoma with ansa pancreatica, and the minimally invasive methods used successfully addressed the patient's condition without needing more invasive surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • A high prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) is found in patients with autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP), but the effects of corticosteroid therapy (CST) on DM control are not well understood.
  • The study included 101 patients with type 1 AIP, classifying them into groups based on the timing of DM diagnosis, and assessed how their DM responded to CST.
  • Findings indicated that patients with diffuse pancreatic swelling and those diagnosed with concurrent DM had higher complications, and certain factors like elevated serum GGT levels and pancreatic atrophy negatively affected DM control after CST.

Article Synopsis
  • Triple A syndrome is a rare genetic disorder marked by adrenal insufficiency, lack of tears (alacrima), and difficulty swallowing (achalasia).
  • Per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) has been effective for treating primary achalasia over the past 5 years, but its long-term effectiveness for achalasia linked to Triple A syndrome wasn't previously established.
  • Studies show that POEM is both safe and effective for treating achalasia associated with Triple A syndrome, though there was a 66.7% recurrence of reflux esophagitis within 12 months post-procedure.

Objectives: Cronkhite-Canada syndrome (CCS) is a rare hamartomatous polyposis syndrome with a proposed association with chronic autoimmune inflammation. To date, genetic background of patients with CCS remains less investigated. In this study we aimed to explore the genomic landscape of CCS.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) features of newly diagnosed autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) and highlights the differences between diffuse and focal types.
  • Researchers analyzed 285 patients with type 1 AIP using EUS before treatment, comparing typical AIP features and chronic pancreatitis (CP) traits.
  • Results showed more pronounced EUS features such as bile duct wall thickening and peripancreatic hypoechoic margin in diffuse AIP, while focal AIP had more cases of main pancreatic duct dilation and cholangitis-like changes.

Background: Caroli syndrome (CS) is a rare congenital disorder without pathognomonic clinical symptoms or laboratory findings; therefore, the diagnosis is often delayed. The objective of this study was to investigate the diagnostic delay and associated risk factors in CS patients.

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of 16 CS patients admitted to a single tertiary medical center on mainland China.

Objective To investigate the short- and long-term therapeutic efficacies of intravenous trans- plantation of bone marrow stem cells (MSCs) in rats with experimental myocardial infarction by meta- analysis. Methods Randomized controlled trials were systematically searched from PubMed, Science Citation Index (SCI), Chinese journal full-text database (CJFD) up to December 2014. While the experimental groups (MSCs groups) were injected MSCs intravenously, the control groups were injected Delubecco's minimum essential medium (DMEM) or phosphate buffered saline (PBS).

Human cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a herpesvirus, which establishes lifelong latency after primary infection and leads to severe disease in immunocompromised patients. However, CMV infection in immunocompetent patients is usually asymptomatic and severe organ damage is rarely reported. We report a case of severe CMV hepatitis in an immunocompetent patient presenting with cholestasis, portal hypertension-related ascites and pancytopenia.

Objective: To summarize the clinical features of the third portion of duodenum (PATD) for improving the understanding of PATD.

Methods: Sixteen cases with PATD in Peking Union Medical College Hospital(PUMCH) were retrospectively analyzed.

Results: The most common symptoms of PATD were upper abdominal pain (12/16) , vomiting (9/16) and distention (7/16).

CD28 family consists of CD28, ICOS, CTLA-4 and PD-1 molecules. The former two are activation receptors and the later two are inhibition receptors. They produce co-stimulatory signals combining with the relevant molecules in B7 family, which plays important role in T cell activation and homeostasis among T subsets.
