The aim of this study was to determine the value of computed tomography perfusion (CTP) parameters, including cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV), mean transit time (MTT) and time-to-peak (TP), in a clinical study of patients with stroke. Additionally, we determined which parameter or combination of parameters are reliable in detecting the presence of an infarct and penumbra. CTP was performed within 24 h of the onset of symptoms in 20 patients with possible stroke.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate how recombinant adenovirus carrying PDE5-targeting shRNAs affects calcium levels in rat penile smooth muscle cells, with potential applications in treating erectile dysfunction (ED).
  • Researchers transfected rat smooth muscle cells with specific shRNAs and measured calcium activity using a fluorescent probe over 24, 48, and 72 hours, observing the changes through a laser scanning confocal microscope.
  • Results showed that the intracellular calcium levels in the shRNA group were significantly lower compared to control groups, indicating that adenovirus-mediated shRNAs can effectively reduce calcium levels in penile smooth muscle cells, suggesting a promising gene therapy approach for ED.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) small interfering RNA (siRNA) affects cGMP levels in human corpus cavernosum smooth muscle cells, potentially aiding in erectile dysfunction treatment.
  • Researchers constructed a specific adenovirus (rAd5-shRNA-PDE5A3) and applied it to different groups of smooth muscle cells to measure cGMP concentrations over time.
  • Results showed that the group treated with rAd5-shRNA-PDE5A3 had significantly elevated cGMP levels compared to control groups, particularly at 72 hours, suggesting its effectiveness in inhibiting the PDE5 gene.

Objective: To study the feasibility of inducing the differentiation of rat adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) into smooth-muscle-like cells in monolayer culture in vitro.

Methods: ADSCs were obtained from the adipose of the inguinal region of the SD rat. A growth curve of the ADSCs was drawn.
