Background: Intractable postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) can be difficult to manage even with aggressive multimodal therapies. Patients who experience uncontrolled refractory cranial PHN despite conservative treatment may benefit from an intrathecal drug delivery system (IDDS). For craniofacial neuropathic pain, the traditional approach has been to place the intrathecal catheter tip below the level of the cranial nerve root entry zones, which may lead to insufficient analgesia.

Background: Patients with autoimmune hepatitis-primary biliary cholangitis (AIH-PBC) overlap syndrome have a worse prognosis compared to AIH or PBC alone and accurately predicting the severity and dynamically monitoring the progression of disease are therefore essential. We aimed to develop a nomogram-based model to predict advanced liver fibrosis in patients with AIH-PBC overlap syndrome.

Methods: A total of 121 patients with AIH-PBC overlap syndrome were retrospectively included and randomly assigned to a development set and a validation set.

Commercial process of islatravir (MK-8591, EFdA) utilizes biocatalytic cascade reactions to construct the ribose moiety of the molecule which bears three chiral centers. However, this biocatalytic process also brought analytical challenges where all stereoisomers and process related compounds are controlled in one isolated intermediate, the final drug substance. A chiral LC method was developed to resolve all those compounds from islatravir and its minor enantiomer by thorough column screening and careful optimization.

Background: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a structured, short-term psychotherapy approach that may have positive effects in terms of relieving postoperative pain. The main objective of this study was to determine the effect of CBT on pain and joint function in patients after total joint arthroplasty.

Methods: We searched 3 electronic databases including randomized controlled studies (RCTs) using CBT as an intervention.

Low propagation rate is the primary problem that limits industry development of tree peony. In this study, a highly efficient regeneration system for tree peony using somatic embryogenesis (SE) was established. The transcriptomes of zygotic embryo explants (S0), non-embryonic callus (S1), embryonic callus (S2), somatic embryos (S3), and regenerated shoots (S4) were analyzed to determine the regulatory mechanisms that underlie SE in tree peony.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the link between gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and preeclampsia (PE), focusing on the role of oxidative stress and protein acetylation in their development.
  • Researchers analyzed placental tissues from healthy individuals and patients with GDM and PE, identifying 22 regulated proteins and 192 acetylated proteins that are significant to these conditions.
  • The findings highlight the involvement of endoplasmic reticulum stress and ferroptosis pathways, offering potential insights into biomarkers and therapeutic targets for GDM and PE.

An ultrasonic-assisted technique was employed to extract crude polysaccharide from Tricholoma matsutake fruiting bodies. Single-factor tests and orthogonal experimental design (L(3)) were used to obtain the optimal extraction conditions. Results showed that the optimal parameters were as follows: ultrasonic temperature, 40 °C; ultrasonic time, 50 min; water to raw material ratio, 25 ml/g; ultrasonic frequency, 45 kHz; and ultrasonic power, 100 W.

Regeneration of damaged neurons and recovery of sensation and motor function after complete spinal cord injury (SCI) are challenging. We previously developed a collagen scaffold, NeuroRegen, to promote axonal growth along collagen fibers and inhibit glial scar formation after SCI. When functionalized with multiple biomolecules, this scaffold promoted neurological regeneration and functional recovery in animals with SCI.

Objective: To explore the rate of overweight and obesity, and the association between unhealthy dietary behaviors and overweight and obesity among Chinese school-aged children from 9 areas.

Methods: By multiple stage stratified cluster sampling, 814 children aged 7 - 12 years old were chosen, provided with questionnaire and anthropometric measurements. According to the definition from Working Group on Obesity in China, children, were divided into different group, univariate logistic regression and multivariate logistic regression were used to analyze the associations between unhealthy dietary behaviors and overweight and obesity.
