Glial cells are crucial for the development of the central nervous system and the maintenance of chemical homeostasis. The process of gliogenesis has been well studied in the rodent brain, but it remains less well studied in the human brain. In addition, rodent glial cells differ from human counterparts in terms of morphologies, functions, and anatomical locations.

In the present study, we have developed nanoparticles and a method that allows the nanoparticles to move to specific sites by simultaneously utilizing the homing ability and magnetism of stem cells. Polymeric clustered SPIO (PCS) nanoparticles are composed of a superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticle (SPION) cluster core coated with poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) and labeled with the fluorescent dye Cy5.

Open surgical treatment with ligation and stripping of the saphenous vein has been the standard of care for many years. Endovenous thermal ablation has been shown to be a safe and effective alternative with high, long-term, target-vein closure rates.

However, the success of MSC therapy relies on the efficiency of its delivery and retention, differentiation, and secreting paracrine factors at the target sites. Recent studies show that superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) modulate the regenerative effects of MSCs.

Uncaria rhynchophylla as a traditional Chinese medicine is widely used to treat hypertension for a long history, whereas its medicinal effective components and potential action mechanism are uncertain. Therefore, twenty-four alkaloids (1-24) isolated from U.

Methods: Induced keratinocyte-like cells (iKCs) were directly reprogrammed from human urine cells by retroviral transduction of two lineage-specific transcription factors BMI1 and △NP63α (BN).
miR-146b-5p is overexpressed in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and is thought to be a related diagnostic marker. Previous studies have indicated the effects of iodine on oncogenic activation. However, the effect of iodine on the proliferation of PTC cells and the associated underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

Purpose: To investigate the changes in the infrarenal aortic length and tortuosity in elderly patients.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records and computed tomography (CT) scans of 857 patients who underwent surgery for colorectal cancer between August 2009 and July 2012. Among these patients, 48 patients who were aged ≥60 years, underwent follow-up CT at least 5 years after surgery, did not have aortic disease, and did not receive radiation therapy were enrolled.
Xian-Ling-Gu-Bao (XLGB), a famous traditional Chinese medicine prescription consisted of six herbal medicines, was used for prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in China. As an oral formulation, the multiple components contained in XLGB were inevitably biotransformed by the intestinal microflora before absorption via the gastrointestinal tract. However, the dynamic profiles of biotransformation products of XLGB remain unknown.

Here, we evaluated the role of soluble metal impurities to the acute inflammogenic potential of MWCNTs, using five types of high purity MWCNTs (>95%). MWCNTs and their soluble fractions collected at 24 h after incubation in phosphate-buffered saline showed diverse metal impurities with variable concentrations.

To engineer multiscaled heterogeneous tissues, a sophisticated and rapid tissue engineering approach is required, such as advanced 3D bioprinting. In this study, a preset extrusion bioprinting technique, which can create heterogeneous, multicellular, and multimaterial structures simultaneously, is utilized for creating a hepatic lobule (≈1 mm) array.

Herein, an antioxidant, artificial nanoscale enzyme, called nanozyme (NZs), is introduced that is composed of Au nanoparticles (NPs) synthesized with a mixture of two representative phytochemicals, namely, gallic acid (GA) and isoflavone (IF), referred to as GI-Au NZs. Their unique antioxidant and anti-aging effects are monitored using Cell Counting Kit-8 and senescence-associated β-galactosidase assays on neonatal human dermal fibroblasts (nHDFs).

TLI is particularly interesting because it is one of the few practical methods for realizing phase contrast with x-rays that is compatible with large-spot high power x-ray sources. A novel micro array anode structured target (MAAST) x-ray source offers several advantages for TLI over the conventional combination of an extended x-ray source coupled with an absorption grating including higher flux and larger field of view, and these advantages become more pronounced for x-ray energies in excess of 30 keV.
