Contrary to oxide or polymeric glasses, metallic glasses are infamously known for their relatively limited thermal stability, which is often characterized by their narrow supercooled liquid regions. Nonetheless, we successfully fabricated metallic-glass based nanomembranes with an ultrahigh thermal ability by a polymer surface buckling enabled exfoliation technique. These nanomembranes exhibit a distinctive nanostructure with nanosized metallic-glasses encapsulated within an interconnected nanoamorphous-oxide network.

Doxorubicin (DOX) has been an effective antitumor agent for human liver cancer cells; however, an overdose might lead to major side effects appearing in clinical applications. In this work, we present a strategy of combining DOX and blue light (BL) irradiation for the antitumor treatment of HepG2 cells (one typical human liver cancer cell line). It is demonstrated that synergetic DOX and BL can significantly reduce cell proliferation and increase the apoptotic rate of HepG2 cells in comparison to individual DOX treatment.

Background: To determine the factors in posterior ligamentous complex indicating lumbar instability in patients diagnosed with degenerative spondylolisthesis on conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients who underwent PLIF surgery for degenerative spondylolisthesis at our institution between 2018 and 2020 and who had complete eligible preoperative imaging data for review and study, including lumbar MRI and anteroposterior and flexion-extension radiographs.

Results: Fifty-three patients were confirmed to have lumbar instability (Unstable Group, 44%), while sixty-seven patients (Stable Group, 56%) did not have instability on radiographs.

Ecological studies suggested a link between air pollution and severe COVID-19 outcomes, while studies accounting for individual-level characteristics are limited. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the impact of short-term ambient air pollution exposure on disease severity among a cohort of 569 laboratory confirmed COVID-19 patients admitted to designated hospitals in Zhejiang province, China, from January 17 to March 3, 2020, and elucidate the possible biological processes involved using transcriptomics. Compared with mild cases, severe cases had higher proportion of medical conditions as well as unfavorable results in most of the laboratory tests, and manifested higher air pollution exposure levels.

Lymphatic metastasis is the primary type of cervical cancer metastasis and is associated with an extremely poor prognosis in patients. The tumor microenvironment primarily includes cancer-associated fibroblasts, tumor-associated macrophages, myeloid-derived suppressor cells, immune and inflammatory cells, and blood and lymphatic vascular networks, which can promote the establishment of lymphatic metastatic sites within immunosuppressive microenvironments or promote lymphatic metastasis by stimulating lymphangiogenesis and epithelial-mesenchymal transformation. Blue light (BL) irradiation has been a potentially efficient treatment for many kinds of tumors. In this study, a BL irradiation (centered at 453 nm in wavelength) was proposed to treat the common human liver cancer cell lines of SMMC-7721 and HepG2, examined by means of flow cytometry, western blot, fluorescence microscope assay.
