Objectives: We aimed to verify the relationship between hypocalcemia in the first 24 hours of ICU admission and mortality, we also hypothesized that blood pressure and blood pressure reactivity are associated with ionized calcium (iCa) and might have mediation effects in the iCa-mortality association.
Design: Retrospective, observational study.
Setting: ICUs in a general hospital.
Background: Lung ultrasound has been extensively used to assess the etiology of respiratory failure. Additionally, lung ultrasound-based scoring systems have been proposed to semi-quantify the loss of lung aeration in the ICU. The one most frequently used distinguishes four steps of progressive loss of aeration (scores from 0 to 3) and 3 scores mean tissue-like pattern.

However, little is known about the spatial distribution of shunt, and a clear definition has been lacking. The aim of the study was to propose two phenotypes for the spatial distribution of intrapulmonary shunt using electrical impedance tomography (EIT) and to investigate the clinical characteristics and outcomes in the two preset phenotypes.

The ability of healthcare providers in China to recognize patient-ventilator asynchrony is unknown. The aim of our study was to evaluate the ability and potential influencing factors to correctly identify patient-ventilator triggering asynchrony in tertiary hospitals in China.

The interspecies interactions between these two bacterial species and their potential impacts on infections are largely unexplored. In this study, we first demonstrated that inhibits the growth of by iron chelating via quorum sensing.

This study evaluated the effects of different doses of LV149, an aquatic-derived probiotic, on gut injury repair in male C57BL/6 mice with dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis (UC) and investigated the underlying mechanisms.

Design: Multicentre, double blinded, placebo controlled phase 3 trial.
Setting: 22 centres in China, September 2016 to December 2020.
Prone positioning has been established as a therapeutic strategy for severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). In COVID-19-associated ARDS (CARDS), the application of prone position has shown varying responses, influenced by factors such as lung recruitability and SARS-CoV-2-induced pulmonary endothelial dysfunction. This study aimed to compare the early impact of pronation on lung ventilation-perfusion matching (VQmatch) in CARDS and non-COVID-19 ARDS patients (non-CARDS).

ARDS is one of the main manifestations of septic MODS. We designed this study to explore the effects of different anti-plate therapy drugs on platelet activation and platelet-leukocyte aggregate (PLA) formation in the early stage of septic ARDS.

Upon hepatic metabolic activation, the reactive PA metabolites covalently bind to DNAs and form DNA adducts, causing mutagenicity and tumorigenicity in the liver. However, the molecular basis of the formation and removal of PA-derived DNA adducts remains largely unexplored.

Methods: 24 ARDS-modeled rabbits were randomly divided into high-driving pressure group (HDP group) and low-driving pressure group (LDP group). Lung microcirculation measurements were performed using the SDF microscope at two timepoints (T1 CVP 2-4 mmHg, T2 CVP 8-10 mmHg).
Objective: Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) has been used to titrate positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP). This study aims to develop a comprehensive view of the efficacy and long-term prognosis of EIT-guided PEEP compared to other conventional approaches in various clinical scenarios, including patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), hypoxemic acute respiratory failure (hARF) and patients undergoing surgery under general anesthesia.
Methods: The literature search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library, from inception to July 30, 2023 (ARDS/hARF) and October 5, 2023 (surgery).
The copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) have been garnered significant attention owing to their low cost raw materials, outstanding optical properties, environmental friendliness and good biocompatibility. In this study, copper nanoclusters stabilized by Acid Chromic Blue K (ACBK-CuNCs) were synthesized. The optimal excitation wavelength of the synthesized ACBK-CuNCs is 344 nm and the optimal emission wavelength is 460 nm.

The peripheral perfusion index (PI) is derived from pulse oximetry and is defined as the ratio of the pulse wave of the pulsatile portion (arteries) to the non-pulsatile portion (venous and other tissues). A growing number of clinical studies have supported the use of PI in various clinical scenarios, such as guiding hemodynamic management and serving as an indicator of outcome and organ function. In this review, we will introduce and discuss this traditional but neglected indicator of the peripheral microcirculatory perfusion.

The complement system is a set of over 50 proteins that constitutes an essential part of the innate immune system. Complement system activation involves an organized proteolytic cascade. Overactivation of complement system activation is the main pathogenic mechanism of several diseases and contributes to the manifestations of many other conditions.

Metal drug-eluting stent unloading is one of the most common clinical complications. Comparatively, BRS detachment is more concealed and harmful, but has yet to be reported in clinical research.

This study sought to compare two modalities of CSP (His bundle pacing (HBP) and left bundle branch pacing (LBBP)) with BiVP and no upgrades in patients with pacing-induced cardiomyopathy. This retrospective analysis comprised consecutive patients who underwent either BiVP or CSP upgrade for PICM at the cardiac department from 2017 to 2021.
