We investigated the involvement of drug transporters in the pharmacokinetics of rosmarinic acid in rats as well as the transporter-mediated drug interaction potential of rosmarinic acid in HEK293 cells overexpressing clinically important solute carrier transporters and also in rats. Intravenously injected rosmarinic acid showed bi-exponential decay and unchanged rosmarinic acid was mainly eliminated by urinary excretion, suggesting the involvement of transporters in its renal excretion. Rosmarinic acid showed organic anion transporter (OAT)1-mediated active transport with a K of 26.

An Al13 ε-Keggin cluster, AlO4Al12(OH)24(H2O)127+, is a predominant intermediate during the hydrolysis and polymerization of aluminum as well as a highly toxic substance to plants and fishes. However, no one could clearly explain why and how a cage-like Al13 ε-Keggin cluster is formed even though it could be readily synthesized by the forced hydrolysis of Al3+. We found that the Al13 ε-Keggin cluster was spontaneously formed not in monocrystalline octosilicate but in polycrystalline magadiite by the cation-exchange reaction with unhydrolyzed Al3+.

The in vivo relevance of ursodeoxycholate (UDCA) treatment (100 mg/kg/day, per oral tid for 5 days before cholestasis induction followed by the same dosing for 5 days) on hepatic function was investigated in rats with 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE, 10 mg/kg, subcutaneous for 5 days)-induced experimental cholestasis. The bile flow rate and the expression level of hepatic multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (Mrp 2) that were decreased in cholestasis were restored after UDCA treatment. Consistent with this, the biliary excretion clearance (CL) of a representative Mrp2 substrate-methotrexate (MTX)-was decreased in cholestatic rats but was restored after UDCA treatment.
