This study investigated the effects of ascochlorin (ASC), a natural compound derived from the fungus , on adipogenesis and obesity. We determined the effects of ASC on 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and whether it ameliorated to mitigate high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity in C57BL/6J mice. We found that ASC significantly inhibited the differentiation of preadipocytes by modulating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, a key regulator of adipogenic processes.

In this study, we investigated the molecular mechanisms by which MAC acts synergistically with 5-FU to inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in CRC cells.

The traditional dichotomous time-divided approach for addressing time delays in diagnosis has limited clinical application because the time delay significantly varies depending on each community in question.
Objective: We aimed to reevaluate the diagnosis time delay based on the PTB disease spectrum using a novel scoring system that was applied at the national level in the Republic of Korea.
Background And Objective: Patients with tuberculosis and diabetes have a higher risk of unfavourable anti-tuberculosis treatment outcomes. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of various diabetes statuses on the outcomes of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.
Methods: Among the patients with pulmonary tuberculosis enrolled in the Korea Tuberculosis Cohort (KTBC) registry and the multicentre prospective cohort study of pulmonary tuberculosis (COSMOTB), those with diabetes and complicated diabetes were identified.
Background: Ginsenoside Rg3, a primary bioactive component of red ginseng, has anti-cancer effects. However, the effects of Rg3-enriched ginseng extract (Rg3RGE) on apoptosis and autophagy in breast cancer have not yet been investigated. In the present study, we explored the anti-tumor effects of Rg3RGE on breast cancer cells stimulated CoCl, a mimetic of the chronic hypoxic response, and determined the operative mechanisms of action.

Methods: A nationwide prospective observational study including drug susceptible TB patients diagnosed from the 1st day to the 10th day of every month between July 2018 and December 2020 in PPM institutions was designed.
Background: Poor nutrition increases disease severity and mortality in patients with tuberculosis (TB). There are gaps in our understanding of the effects of being underweight or overweight on TB in relation to sex.
Methods: We generated a nationwide TB registry database and assessed the effects of body mass index (BMI) on mortality in patients with pulmonary TB.
Purpose: Isoniazid-monoresistant tuberculosis (Hr-TB) has emerged as a global challenge, necessitating detailed guidelines for its diagnosis and treatment. We aim to consolidate the Korean guidelines for Hr-TB management by gathering expert opinions and reaching a consensus.
Patients And Methods: A conventional Delphi method involving two rounds of surveys was conducted with 96 experts selected based on their clinical and research experience and involvement in nationwide tuberculosis studies and development of the Korean guidelines on tuberculosis.

Background: Macroautophagy plays an important role in the pathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but the role of chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA) has not been investigated. We investigated if and how CMA is involved in the pathogenesis of COPD.
Methods: We measured the level of lysosome-associated membrane protein-2A (LAMP-2A), which is a critical component of CMA that functions as a receptor for cytosolic substrate proteins, in total lung tissues and primary human bronchial epithelial cells (HBECs) from healthy never smokers, smokers, and COPD patients.
(MTB) is a communicable disease and still remains a threat to common health. Thus, early diagnosis and treatment are required to prevent the spread of infection. Despite the recent advances in molecular diagnostic systems, the commonly used MTB diagnostic tools are laboratory-based assays, such as mycobacterial culture, MTB PCR, and Xpert MTB/RIF.

MAC induces apoptosis and autophagy in various cancer cells, but the effects of MAC on apoptosis and autophagy in cervical cancer cells, as well as how the interaction between apoptosis and autophagy mediates the cellular anticancer effects are not known. Here, we investigated that MAC induced apoptotic cell death of cervical cancer cells without regulating the cell cycle and promoted autophagy by inhibiting the phosphorylation of serine-threonine kinase B (Akt), mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), and 70-kDa ribosomal protein S6 kinase (p70S6K).

February 2023
Purpose: To examine the mediating factor on the association of secondary traumatic stress and burnout among critical care nurses.
Design: A correlational study.
Methods: Data were collected from a convenience sampling of 147 nurses from two general hospitals who had six or more months of experience working in an intensive care unit.
Recent studies have shown that Nur77 and AMPKα play an important role in regulating adipogenesis and isoalantolactone (ISO) dual-targeting AMPKα and Nur77 inhibits adipogenesis. In this study, we hypothesized that (elecampane) root extract (IHE), which contains two sesquiterpene lactones, alantolactone (ALA) and ISO, as major compounds, might inhibit adipogenesis. Here, we found that ALA and IHE simultaneously target AMPKα and Nur77 and inhibited adipogenic differentiation of 3T3-L1 cells, accompanied by the decreased expression of adipocyte markers.

Our study aimed to identify TB phenotypes through cluster analysis and compare their initial symptomatic, microbiological and radiographic characteristics. We systemically collected data of notified TB patients notified in Korea and constructed a prospective, observational cohort database.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed Korean tuberculosis (TB) cohort data from September 2018 to October 2019 to evaluate the usefulness of bronchoscopy in patients with microbiologically negative pulmonary TB (based on initial sputum polymerase chain reaction and culture results).
4-O-Methyl-ascochlorin (MAC), a derivative of the prenyl-phenol antibiotic ascochlorin, promotes accumulation of HIF-1α. In this study, we investigated the molecular mechanisms of the effect of MAC on cell migration and mesenchymal epithelial transition (EMT) processes in breast cancer cells. MAC upregulated cell motility and migration regardless of cell viability, and promoted EMT features by regulating EMT-related proteins and transcription.
