Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and neural progenitor cells (NPCs) have been regarded for their clinical therapeutic potential for central nervous system (CNS) pathologies. Their potential utility is a result of their intrinsic ability to repair damaged tissues, deliver therapeutic proteins, and migrate to sites of pathology within the brain. However, it remains unclear whether the CNS promotes any changes in these potential therapeutic cells, which would be critical to understand before clinical application.

Background: Cytolytic T lymphocytes (CTL) and natural killer (NK) cells have been implicated as important cells in antitumor responses. Our previous research has shown that high mobility group nucleosomal-binding domain 2 (HMGN2) could be released by IL-2 and PHA stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and also induced tumor cells apoptosis at low doses. In this study, we isolated and cultured PBMCs and CD8⁺ T cells to analyze the expression and antitumor effects of HMGN2.

Article Synopsis
  • Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) can significantly impact patients' quality of life, leading to treatment discontinuation.
  • Olanzapine, typically used as an atypical antipsychotic, has shown effectiveness in managing refractory CINV by targeting multiple receptors involved in nausea pathways.
  • A meta-analysis of 6 studies with 726 patients indicated that including olanzapine in antiemetic regimens is more effective at reducing CINV, particularly in the delayed phase, for both general and Chinese populations.

Unlabelled: Although many severe acute respiratory syndrome-like coronaviruses (SARS-like CoVs) have been identified in bats in China, Europe, and Africa, most have a genetic organization significantly distinct from human/civet SARS CoVs in the receptor-binding domain (RBD), which mediates receptor binding and determines the host spectrum, resulting in their failure to cause human infections and making them unlikely progenitors of human/civet SARS CoVs. Here, a viral metagenomic analysis of 268 bat rectal swabs collected from four counties in Yunnan Province has identified hundreds of sequences relating to alpha- and betacoronaviruses. Phylogenetic analysis based on a conserved region of the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase gene revealed that alphacoronaviruses had diversities with some obvious differences from those reported previously.

Context: Both polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and obesity are associated with specific reproductive health complications, including lower oocyte quality and clinical pregnancy rates in assisted conception cycles, which may be a result of metabolism-induced changes in the oocyte through the microenvironment of follicular fluid. Free fatty acids (FFAs) are important biomedical indicators of abnormal lipid metabolism and have pronounced effects on cells, leading to changes in metabolism, cell growth, and differentiation.

Objective: Our objective was to determine the effect of FFA metabolism in plasma and follicular fluid on oocyte quality in the women with PCOS undergoing in vitro fertilization.

Using the paradigm of in vitro differentiation of hESCs/iPSCs into retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells, we have recently profiled mRNA and miRNA transcriptomes to define a set of RPE mRNA and miRNA signature genes implicated in directed RPE differentiation. In this study, in order to understand the role of DNA methylation in RPE differentiation, we profiled genome-scale DNA methylation patterns using the method of reduced representation bisulfite sequencing (RRBS). We found dynamic waves of de novo methylation and demethylation in four stages of RPE differentiation.
