The interplay between circadian clocks, the cell cycle, and DNA repair has been extensively documented, yet the epigenetic control of circadian clocks by DNA damage responses remains relatively unexplored. Here, we showed that checkpoint kinases CHK1/2 regulate chromatin structure during DNA damage in Neurospora crassa to maintain robust circadian rhythms. Under DNA damage stress, deletion of chk1/2 disrupted the rhythmic transcription of the clock gene frq by suppressing the rhythmic binding of the transcription activator White Collar complex (WCC) at the frq promoter, as the chromatin structure remained condensed.

In contrast to non-contrast computed tomography (NC-CT) scans, contrast-enhanced (CE) CT scans can highlight discrepancies between abnormal and normal areas, commonly used in clinical diagnosis of focal liver lesions. However, the use of contrast agents in CE-CT scans imposes significant physical and economic burdens on patients in clinical practice. Recently, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs)-based synthesis models offer an alternative approach that obtains CE-CT images from NC-CT images.

Re-epithelialization constitutes a critical stage in the intricate process of wound healing, yet its mechanisms in the context of diabetic wounds remain elusive. In this study, the role of the mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET) vis-à-vis the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of keratinocytes in diabetic wound re-epithelialization is investigated. The findings reveal an impediment in the MET process, rather than EMT, which significantly compromised re-epithelialization in diabetic wounds.

The ferroelectric tunnel junction (FTJ) is a competitive candidate for post-Moore nonvolatile memories due to its low power consumption and nonvolatility, with its performance being strongly dependent on the conditions for contact between the ferroelectric material and the metal electrode. The development of two-dimensional materials in recent years has offered new opportunities such as functional metal layers, which is challenging for traditional FTJ systems. Here, we introduce the newly discovered ferroelectric metal WTe as the electrode to construct WTe/α-InSe/Au ferroelectric semiconductor junctions.

Immobilization of enzymes in porous organic framework (POF) materials is popular strategy to stabilize enzymes. For such solid enzyme catalysis system, improving the catalytic efficiency is challenging due to the diffusion resistance from solid-liquid interface and inner pores. Here, UCST-pH dual responsive polymeric carrier (PEG-b-PAAm-b-P(GMA-co-AAc)) was synthesized to immobilize cytochrome c (Cyt c), which impart the reversibly insoluble-soluble property to the immobilized Cyt c.

Article Synopsis
  • * Mice lacking the BCKDK enzyme in the liver showed normal blood sugar levels but had reduced glucose production and key gluconeogenic enzyme expression, while those lacking BCKDHA did not show these abnormalities.
  • * BT2 treatment inhibited BCKDK and reduced glucose production in liver cells, suggesting that BCKDK influences glucose production through specific proteins (CREB and FOXO1) without relying on BCKDHA's role in BCAA breakdown.

Metal-organic frameworks and hydrogen-organic frameworks (MOFs and HOFs) are attractive hosts for enzyme immobilization, but they are limited to immobilizing the purified enzymes, making industrial upscaling unattractive. Herein, aptamer-modified dual thermoresponsive polymeric micelles with switchable self-assembly and core-shell structure are constructed, which enable selective immobilization of trypsin directly from complex biological systems through a cascade operation of separation and immobilization. Their steric self-assembly provides a large amount of adsorption sites on the soluble micellar shell, resulting in high adsorption capacity and excellent selectivity.

The microscopic structure of the material's solid-liquid interface significantly influences its physicochemical properties. Peak force infrared microscopy (PFIR) is a powerful technique for analyzing these interfaces at the nanoscale, revealing crucial structure-activity relationships. PFIR is recognized for its explicit photothermal signal generation mechanism but tends to overlook other photoinduced forces, which can disturb the obtained infrared spectra, thereby reducing spectral signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and sensitivity.

Designing an electrode that can generate abundant free radicals and O, which can effectively degrade and detoxify organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) through a co-oxidation pathway, is important. In this study, we prepared a electrode GO/MoS@AS by supporting MoS on alum sludge (AS) under graphene oxide (GO) nanoconfinement. The results show that the dominant role of O at the cathode and OH at the anode for degradation, in addition to the involvement of O in the cathodic degradation mechanism, can be attributed to the abundant precursor O and HO.
