Background: The COVID-19 pandemic greatly impacted traditional health structures, posing new challenges in an unprecedented health crisis. Telemedicine services were implemented in countries with robust digital platforms to reduce hospital attendance while continuing to provide medical care. This study aims to determine how telemedicine services have been used as a tool to ensure the right to health in Latin America during the pandemic.

The goal of this study was to investigate the effect of cyclic mechanical stimulation on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) seeded within human umbilical veins (HUVs), and to determine the potential of the engineered constructs to function as tendon tissue replacement models. Decellularized HUVs were seeded with MSCs embedded in type I collagen hydrogel. A mechanical stimulator for tissue engineering applications was specifically designed to cyclically tension the constructs for durations up to 2 weeks, where controls were left untensioned.

The umbilical cord is a biological tissue that is readily available and is usually discarded. In this study, we investigate the potential of making use of part of the human umbilical cord, in particular the umbilical vein, as a functional tissue engineering scaffold. Previous studies suggested the use of the human umbilical vein (HUV) as an acellular vascular grafting material.
