Objectives: Molecular analysis of meropenem-resistant mechanisms in mutants emerging from long-term in vitro meropenem exposure to borderline meropenem-susceptible carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) and non-CPE.

Methods: Escherichia coli TUM13867 harbouring both blaIMP-6- and blaCTX-M-2-carrying IncN plasmid and Citrobacter koseri TUM13189 with blaCTX-M-2-carrying chromosome were used. Meropenem MIC was 1 mg/L against both strains.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Yuko Tsutsumi Endo"

  • - Yuko Tsutsumi Endo's research primarily focuses on the molecular mechanisms of antibiotic resistance, specifically investigating the emergence of meropenem-resistant mutants in Enterobacterales during prolonged exposure to the antibiotic meropenem.
  • - The study utilized whole-genome sequencing to analyze Escherichia coli and Citrobacter koseri strains, identifying genetic alterations associated with resistance to meropenem.
  • - Findings highlight the complex interactions between carbapenemase-producing and non-carbapenemase-producing strains, offering insights into resistance patterns that could inform treatment strategies and antibiotic stewardship.
