Elevated numbers of cells producing interleukin-5 and interleukin-10 in a boy with Kimura disease.

Kimura disease is a rare disorder of unknown etiology, characterized by the presence of benign subcutaneous granuloma, marked peripheral blood eosinophilia and elevation of the immunglobulin E (IgE) serum level. Here, we present a case of a 12-year-old boy with Kimura disease who had a history of repeated severe influenza virus A infection. Along with the characteristic histological findings of granuloma, including eosinophil infiltration, enzyme-linked immunospot assay showed elevated numbers of IL-5- and IL-10-producing cells in the peripheral blood.

Primary cutaneous apocrine carcinoma arising within a congenital nevus: Keratins and filaggrin expression suggesting differentiation into the secretory cells of apocrine glands.

Primary cutaneous apocrine carcinoma (PCAC) is a rare neoplasm of skin appendages. To determine the differentiation of apocrine carcinoma, we studied the expression of epithelial keratins and filaggrin immunohistochemically using 10 anti-keratin antibodies againt keratin (K) 1, 7, 8, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and the anti-filaggrin antibody. PCAC demonstrated strong positivity for K7, K8, K18 and K19.

Pilomatricoma can differentiate not only towards hair matrix and hair cortex, but also follicular infundibulum, outer root sheath and hair bulge.

Pilomatricoma is believed to differentiate towards the hair matrix and hair cortex. To elucidate the origin of differentiation in pilomatricoma, we studied the expression of epithelial keratin (K) and filaggrin (filament aggregating protein) in pilomatricoma. An immunohistochemical study has been made of 53 cases of pilomatricoma using 10 monospecific anti-keratin antibodies and anti-filaggrin antibody.

Case of creeping disease treated with ivermectin.

We report a case of creeping disease treated successfully with ivermectin. A 46-year-old man presented with a 1-month history of pruriginous linear erythema on his right thigh after a visit to Indonesia. Although he had no history of eating raw fish or meat, he walked along the river and in the jungle without wearing shoes.

Cytokeratin expression in trichilemmal carcinoma suggests differentiation towards follicular infundibulum.

An immunohistochemical study of cytokeratins (CK) in a case of trichilemmal carcinoma (TLC). CK expression showed the presence of CK 1, 10, 14 and 17, suggesting that TLC differentiates toward follicular infundibulum. In a comparison of CK expression between TLC and trichilemmoma, the absence of CK 15 and 16 in TLC may be related to transformation from trichilemmoma to TLC.

Keratin profiles may differ between intraepidermal and intradermal invasive eccrine porocarcinoma.

We report two cases of eccrine porocarcinoma (EPC), one of intrepidermal EPC (IEEPC) and one of intradermal invasive EPC (IDEPC) in an immunohistochemical study of cytokeratins (CK) using nine different anti-keratin antibodies against CK1, 7, 8, 10, 14, 16, 17, 18 and 19. IEEPC expressed terminal differentiated CK1 and CK10. In contrast, IDEPC expressed simple-epithelial keratins such as CK7, 8, 18 and 19.
