Upon request by GSK, the authors clarify that no AS03 from GSK was used in this study, and the results obtained with AddaS03 are not transposable to the GSK's AS03 adjuvant.

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a demyelinating disease caused by the JC polyomavirus (JCPyV). Based on the clinical criteria, PML is diagnosed via polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detection of JCPyV DNA in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in combination with neurological and imaging findings. Although the utility of CSF JCPyV testing using ultrasensitive PCR assays has been suggested, its potential requires further evaluation.

Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) is a prion disease in cattle caused by classical-type (C-), L-type (L-), or H-type (H-) BSE prions. While C-BSE prions are zoonotic agents responsible for variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, L- and H-BSE prions are believed not to be connected to human prion diseases. However, L-BSE prions have been shown to transmit to cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis), suggesting they may have zoonotic potential.

We report the case of a 44-year-old male with advanced gastric cancer with distal lymph node metastasis who achieved a pathological complete response to chemotherapy combined with nivolumab. After five months of treatment, the patient underwent total gastrectomy with D2 lymph node dissection, and histological examination revealed the absence of malignant cells not only in the resected specimen but also in the harvested lymph nodes. At present, more than 1 year after the initial surgery, the patient is still alive without any recurrence.

Disinformation has transformed into a global issue and while it is seen as a growing concern to democracy today, autocrats have long used it as a part of their propaganda repertoire. Yet, no study has tested the effect of disinformation on regime stability and breakdown beyond country-specific studies. Drawing on novel measures from the Digital Society Project (DSP) estimating the levels of disinformation disseminated by governments across 148 countries between 2000-2022 and from the Episodes of Regime Transformation (ERT) dataset, we provide the first global comparative study of disinformation and survival of democratic and authoritarian regimes, respectively.

The spike (S) protein of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a glycoprotein, expressed on the virion surface, that mediates infection of host cells by directly interacting with host receptors. As such, it is a reasonable target to neutralize the infectivity of the virus. Here we found that a recombinant S protein vaccine adjuvanted with Alhydrogel or the QS-21-like adjuvant Quil-A effectively induced anti-S receptor binding domain (RBD) serum IgG and neutralizing antibody titers in the Syrian hamster model, resulting in significantly low SARS-CoV-2 replication in respiratory organs and reduced body weight loss upon virus challenge.
