Interventional Radiology Treatments to Address Chronic Pelvic Pain in Females.

Background: Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) affects about one in four women globally and has a variety of etiologies, including gynecologic causes. Interventional radiology (IR) offers minimally invasive treatment options for several of these etiologies.

Purpose: This review provides an overview of IR interventions for treating gynecologic causes of CPP, including fibroids, adenomyosis, pelvic venous disease (PeVD), endometriosis, and peritoneal inclusion cysts (PICs).

Interventional Treatment of Labial Varices.

Labial varices are commonly seen in women with varicose veins of the pelvis. Initial management is conservative management since labial varies typically resolve, particularly in pregnant patients following delivery. Varices can be seen also in association with pelvic varices in the pelvic venous disease spectrum.

Iliac Vein Stenosis: Is the Data Strong Enough for Stenting in the Young Pelvic Venous Disorders (PeVD) Population?

Iliac vein stenosis is a clinical condition resulting from external compression of the iliocaval venous unit with the consequent remodeling of the vascular wall, hemodynamic alterations, and predisposition to venous thrombosis. As such, the most common indications for percutaneous endovascular iliac vein stenting supported by the literature, include the management of thrombotic and non-thrombotic iliac venous lesions associated with advanced chronic venous disease (CVD). However, its clinical presentation is variable, and it may also include features associated with PeVD such as chronic pelvic pain, perineal heaviness, urinary urgency, postcoital pain, and vulvar or superficial non-saphenous veins varicosities.
