Objectives: Computed tomography (CT) imaging of a sublobar resection specimen may inform intraoperative surgical margin assessment. However, consistency with final pathological margins has not been previously evaluated. In this study, we investigated the concordance between surgical margin measurements by CT versus pathology measurements using an ex vivo sublobar lung resection model.

Methods: Changes in the number of surgical procedures for lung cancer and mediastinal tumors were analyzed using the National Clinical Database of Japan.
Objectives: Systemic sclerosis is characterised by ischaemic skin ulcers on the fingertips, and low-energy shock wave therapy is suggested as a novel treatment for ischaemic lesions with angiogenic effects. We aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of shock wave therapy for skin ulcers in patients with systemic sclerosis.
Methods: In this phase 3 pivotal study, we analysed 60 systemic sclerosis patients with digital ulcers that did not disappear after >4 weeks of existing treatment: 30 patients were treated with extracorporeal shock wave therapy and 30 with conventional treatment.

Aims: Predictors of true degenerative mitral stenosis (MS) in patients with aortic stenosis who underwent transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) remain unknown. This study aimed to investigate the predictors and prognostic value of true degenerative MS in this population.
Methods And Results: We retrospectively reviewed the records of 760 consecutive patients who underwent TAVI.

Background: The prevalence, characteristics, and prognosis of atrial functional mitral regurgitation (AFMR) based on severity remain unclear. No studies have systematically evaluated quantitative thresholds, such as effective regurgitant orifice area (EROA) or regurgitant volume, in relation to outcomes in AFMR. This multicenter study aimed to clarify the clinical implications of both qualitative and quantitative assessments of AFMR severity.

Cardiac power output (CPO) has demonstrated prognostic value in patients undergoing TAVI for severe AS. This study investigated prognoses in patients undergoing TAVI for severe AS and to explore the additional information that ESE can provide for risk stratification.

Even though some patch-type hemostatic materials have been used in the clinic, sufficient tissue adhesion property and the management of tissue adhesion and anti-adhesion have been the challenges. In this report, we designed Janus tissue adhesive hemostatic patch, consisting of Alaska pollock gelatin (Org-ApGltn) as a support layer and decanoyl group-modified ApGltn (C10-ApGltn) with pentaerythritol poly(ethylene glycol) ether tetrasuccinimidyl glutarate (4S-PEG) as an adhesive layer, named as the C10-ApGltn patch.

Methods: The National Clinical Database of Japan, with six annual datasets from 2014 to 2019, was used. All patients who underwent surgery for secondary spontaneous pneumothorax were included, excluding those < 15 years old and those with incomplete data.

Thermal or burn injury results in profound metabolic changes in the body. This can contribute to muscle atrophy, bone loss, as well as suppression of the immune system. While the mechanisms that underlie this hypermetabolic response remain unclear, patients with burn injury often have low circulating levels of vitamin D.

We aimed to investigate the clinicopathological characteristics and prognostic factors of surgically resected sarcomatoid carcinoma of the lung.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 14999 patients who underwent surgical resection for non-small cell lung cancer accumulated by the Japanese Joint Committee of Lung Cancer Registry in 2010.
Aims: Cardiac power output (CPO) measures cardiac performance, and its prognostic significance in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (EF) has been previously reported. However, the effectiveness of CPO in risk stratification of patients with valvular heart disease and post-operative valvular disease has not been reported. We aimed to determine the association between CPO and clinical outcomes in patients with preserved left ventricular (LV) EF after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).

Extended bronchoplasty for the left lower lobe lung tumors with interlobar lymph node involvement is a useful surgical technique for avoiding pneumonectomy. Typically, sleeve bronchoplasty, in which the superior division bronchus and the left main bronchus are separated and anastomosed, is chosen due to the difference in caliber of the anastomosis; herein, we report a wedge extended bronchoplasty in which the superior division bronchus and the left main bronchus were not completely separated. The main point of this technique is to adjust the difference in caliber by suturing the main bronchial membranes.

This study aimed to elucidate whether early follow-up computerized tomography (CT) within 7 days after admission would decrease unexpected hemostatic procedures on pediatric blunt liver and spleen injury (BLSI).
Methods: A post-hoc analysis of a multicenter observational cohort study on pediatric patients with BLSI (2008-2019) was conducted on those who underwent NOM, in whom the timing of follow-up CT were decided by treating physicians.
Domains in a crystal, which have crystallographic uniformity and are geometrically segmented, typically arise from various phase transitions. The physical properties within individual domains are inherently the same as those in the homogeneous bulk. As a result, sufficiently large domains have little influence on the bulk properties.

While artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to contribute to improved accuracy and is being applied clinically, its impact on daily clinical practice has not been fully evaluated. : We retrospectively examined 30 consecutive patients who underwent AI-equipped TTE at a single institution.
