Herein, a scope of meso-substituents for the synthesis of 5,15-dioxaporphyrins (DOPs), a novel antiaromatic porphyrinoid, was investigated. DOPs with various types of aryl substituents were synthesized by nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction of nickel bis(α,α'-dibromodipyrrin) complexes bearing corresponding meso-aryl substituents and subsequent intramolecular annulation reaction of β-hydroxy-substituted intermediates. Using a copper dipyrrin complex instead of nickel complexes, a copper complex of DOP was synthesized for the first time.

A 66-year-old male patient underwent repair using the sutureless technique for an oozing-type cardiac rupture associated with myocardial infarction of the anterior left ventricular wall. On postoperative day 10, echocardiography revealed a thrombus in the apex region, and anticoagulation therapy was started with warfarin. The thrombus disappeared two months postoperatively.

Background: Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) have been reported to have effects beyond lowering blood glucose levels, with certain SGLT2i expanding their indications to chronic kidney disease and chronic heart failure. We focused on the hepatoprotective and renoprotective effects of six SGLT2i and assessed whether the effects were unique to each drug or common class effects, in addition to whether the renal and hepatoprotective effects vary based on renal and hepatic status.

Diacylglycerol O-acyltransferase 1 (DGAT1) is a key enzyme for fat absorption step in the enterocytes. We previously reported that DGAT1 inhibition increased plasma alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activities in corn oil-loaded rats via protein kinase C (PKC) activation. In the present study, we investigated the mechanism with respect to the morphology and permeability of the small intestine, focusing on PKC function, and found that shortening of the intestinal villi and a decrease in the number of tdT-mediated dUTP-biotin nick-end labeling-positive cells in the tips of the villi were observed in the jejunum of DGAT1 inhibitor-treated rats loaded with corn oil.

While research has identified several inhibitors of the main protease (Mpro) of SARS-CoV-2, a significant portion of these compounds exhibit reduced activity in the presence of reducing agents, raising concerns about their effectiveness in vivo. Furthermore, the conventional biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) for cellular assays using viral particles poses a limitation for the widespread evaluation of Mpro inhibitor efficacy in a cell-based assay. Herein, we demonstrate that sulfur extrusion can achieve substantial molecular bending of a perylene structure to form a substructure of a Vögtle belt, a proposed yet hitherto elusive carbon nanotube fragment. Bent perylene bisimide (PBI) derivatives were synthesized through a double-sulfur-extrusion reaction from the corresponding sulfur-containing V-shaped precursors with an internal alkyl tether.

Background: The clinical application of human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (CMs) for cardiac repair commenced with the epicardial delivery of engineered cardiac tissue; however, the feasibility of the direct delivery of human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived CMs into the cardiac muscle layer, which has reportedly induced electrical integration, is unclear because of concerns about poor engraftment of CMs and posttransplant arrhythmias. One of the major problems associated with bare nitinol stent implantation is stent fracture, particularly in the popliteal artery. The purpose of this study was to determine whether drug coated balloons (DCB), interwoven stents (IWS), or plain old balloon angioplasty (POBA) would be suitable for use in distal femoropopliteal (FP) long lesions when an Eluvia stent was implanted proximal to a lesion. This was a multi-center retrospective study enrolling patients undergoing concomitant use of Eluvia with DCB, IWS or POBA for symptomatic atherosclerotic femoropopliteal disease (lesion length > 15 cm) [Rutherford category 2-6] between January 2018 and September 2021.
