Purpose: To describe the vitreoretinal interface in vitreomacular traction (VMT) by using novel optical coherence tomography (OCT) methods; wide-angle montage, and pseudomotion OCT imaging systems.

Design: Observational case series.

Methods: Wide-angle montage OCT images of horizontal and vertical scans through the fovea were acquired in 50 eyes of 46 consecutive patients with VMT.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to observe how posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) initiates in healthy individuals under 20 years using wide-angle optical coherence tomography (OCT).
  • - Researchers analyzed scans from 63 eyes of 35 subjects aged 4 to 17, finding that 71.4% of the eyes had PVD, with younger individuals being less likely to have it.
  • - PVD mostly began in the mid-peripheral vitreous, especially in the superior quadrants, starting anterior to the vascular arcades, and all cases originated outside the macular liquefied areas where the vitreous connects to the retina.
