Background A preoperative sciatic nerve block (SNB) before total knee arthroplasty (TKA) frequently causes postoperative drop foot; however, this can also occur as an unintended result of surgical invasion. This study assessed the benefits of a postoperative SNB at the subgluteal space for patients who underwent TKA. Methodology This was a single-center, retrospective cohort study.

Acute hypoxemia due to right-to-left shunt via a patent foramen ovale during left internal thoracic artery to left anterior descending artery anastomosis in off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting: a case report.

Background: A right-to-left shunt via a patent foramen ovale (PFO) during off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) may result in difficulties in oxygenation and circulatory management. We herein present a case of a marked shunt via a PFO during OPCAB.

Case Presentation: A 74-year-old man who had aortic root enlargement, compressing the right atrium, and an atrial septal aneurysm, underwent OPCAB.

[Determination of Inorganic Arsenic for Pet Food by LC-ICP-MS].

We have developed a quantitative determination method of the concentration of inorganic arsenic in pet foods using a liquid chromatograph-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer (LC-ICP-MS). After adding 2 w/v% TMAH solution to a sample, inorganic arsenic was extracted by heating and the extract was collected by water. The pH of the solution was adjusted, and injected into a LC-ICP-MS to determine the concentration of inorganic arsenic.

Large Brunner's Gland Hyperplasia with Bleeding: A Case Report.

We report a rare case of a large Brunner's gland hyperplasia (BGH) with severe anemia. A 33-year-old woman was transferred to our hospital with anemia and a duodenal mass. She had a 2-week history of melena and mild shortness of breath.

Determination and surveillance of hydrocortisone and progesterone in livestock products by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

A simple analytical method for the determination of hydrocortisone and progesterone in bovine, swine, and chicken muscle and eggs was developed. Hydrocortisone and progesterone were extracted with acetonitrile and subsequently cleaned-up using an Oasis HLB mini-cartridge. The method was validated in accordance with Japanese guidelines and exhibited trueness from 86.

[Determination of Amantadine in Poultry Tissues and Egg by LC-MS/MS].

An accurate and selective analytical method for amantadine, which is used as antiviral drug to treat influenza A virus infection, was developed using LC-MS/MS. Residual amantadine was extracted from 4 kinds of food sample (poultry muscle, liver, gizzard and egg) with acetonitrile-pH 3.0 McIlvaine buffer (7 : 3), then cleaned up with an Oasis® MCX mini-cartridge.

Determination and surveillance of nine acaricides and one metabolite in honey by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

A simple and accurate analytical method for the determination of acaricides in honey was developed and validated in accordance with Japanese validation guidelines. Analytes - amitraz, N-2,4-dimethylphenyl-N-methylformamidine (DMPF), etoxazole, fenpyroximate, fipronil, hexythiazox, propargite, pyridaben and spirodiclofen - were extracted with ethyl acetate under basic conditions and subsequently cleaned up using an InertSep(®) MA-1 polymer-based anion-exchange column. The method was validated by fortified recovery tests at three different concentrations (1, 5 and 10 µg kg(-1)) performed with three samples daily on five different days.
