Tumor suppressor BRCA2 executes homologous recombination to repair DNA double-strand breaks in collaboration with RAD51, involving exon 11 and 27. Exon 11 constitutes a region where pathogenic variants (PVs) accumulate, and mutations in this region are known to contribute to carcinogenesis. However, the impact of the heterozygous PVs of BRCA2 exon 11 on the life quality beyond cancer risk, including male fertility, remains unclear.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs), which are small non-coding RNAs, are recognized as important significant endogenous bio-molecules that regulate the post-transcriptional processes of target genes. However, predictive methods for significantly working miRNAs are poorly understood. The present study aimed to establish a novel method, miRNA protein analysis of integrative relationship (miR-PAIR), for the identification of effectively working miRNAs involved in physiological or pathological events.

Background: Endoscopic resection (ER) of non-ampullary duodenal epithelial tumors (NADETs) is associated with a high incidence of delayed bleeding (DB). While previous reports have identified composite risk factors for delayed adverse events, including both DB and delayed perforation, the specific factors associated with DB remain unclear. This study aimed to identify factors associated with DB after ER of NADETs.

Various studies have reported resistance mechanisms and treatment methods after epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-tyrosine kinase inhibitor treatment; however, treatment policies have not yet been established, and few cases have reported transformation to pleomorphic carcinoma (PC) as the resistance mechanism. Herein, we report the case of a 66-year-old woman who was diagnosed with Stage 4A lung adenocarcinoma (cT2bN0M1b) through bronchoscopic biopsy. Genetic profiling revealed an EGFR L858R mutation; therefore, osimertinib was administered as the first-line therapy and achieved a partial response.

Background And Aim: We aimed to elucidate the feasibility of endoscopic resection (ER) for salvage and metachronous lesions following chemoradiotherapy (CRT) and radiotherapy (RT) for laryngopharyngeal cancer.

Methods: Consecutive patients who underwent ER for superficial laryngopharyngeal cancer between March 2005 and September 2022 were retrospectively reviewed and stratified into salvage (16 patients, 16 lesions), metachronous (18 patients, 27 lesions), and naïve RT (217 patients, 306 lesions) groups. Salvage lesions were residual or local recurrent after CRT, and metachronous lesions were second primary lesions in the irradiated field following complete response.

Unsymmetric dinuclear Ir(I) complexes, [IrCl(L)(-dpmppp)] (L = XylNC (), BuNC (), CO ()), were synthesized using -PhPCHP(Ph)(CH)P(Ph)CHPPh (-dpmppp), which supports - (M) and (M) metal sites, and exhibited high reactivity for O, H, and HCl. The IrRh heterodinuclear complexes, [MMCl(L)(-dpmppp)] () (MM = IrRh, RhIr; L = XylNC, CO ( = , )), were also synthesized and used together with the Rh complexes () to elucidate the role of each metal site. For the reactions of O, and showed higher reactivity than those of and , giving η-peroxide complexes [{MCl}{M(η-O)(XylNC)}(-dpmppp)] (, ), from which O would not dissociate.

Article Synopsis
  • A 64-year-old man with advanced lung adenocarcinoma and a KRAS mutation was treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors and later started on sotorasib.
  • After one month on sotorasib, he developed severe anemia, indicated by low serum hemoglobin levels, high erythropoietin levels, and low reticulocyte counts.
  • Bone marrow tests showed pure red cell aplasia, leading to the conclusion that sotorasib was the likely cause of the anemia after it improved upon stopping the medication.

Background And Objectives: Endoscopic treatment of obstructive jaundice and pancreatitis due to hepaticojejunostomy (H-J), pancreatojejunostomy (P-J) strictures, and tumor recurrence after pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) is technically challenging. Treatment of P-J strictures results in poor outcomes. Although conventional EUS that has an oblique view is not suitable for such patients, forward-viewing EUS (FV-EUS) may become a useful option.

Article Synopsis
  • Tip-in endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) is effective for removing large colorectal neoplasms, but the capabilities of non-experts in performing this technique had not been studied prior to this research.
  • A study involving 597 colorectal neoplasms revealed that, while non-experts initially had lower success rates for en bloc and R0 resections, their performance improved with more experience, particularly after completing over 10 cases.
  • Factors hindering successful en bloc resections included non-polypoid lesion shapes, underlying folds in the lesions, non-lifting signs, and non-expert status with limited experience, yet the study concluded that overall outcomes by non-experts were still favorable.

Genes regulating developmental processes have been identified, but the mechanisms underlying their expression with the correct timing are still under investigation. Several genes show oscillatory expression that regulates the timing of developmental processes, such as somitogenesis and neurogenesis. These oscillations are also important for other developmental processes, such as cell proliferation and differentiation.

  • Computer-aided detection (CADe) systems improve polyp detection during colonoscopy but suffer from issues with false positives (FPs), which can distract endoscopists.
  • In a study comparing videos from before and after a CADe update, researchers found that the update significantly reduced the number of FPs and the time spent addressing them, while maintaining a stable true positive rate for polyp detection.
  • The findings suggest that the CADe update could ease the workload for endoscopists without compromising their ability to detect actual polyps.
