Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the dangers of high aluminum levels in algae and aimed to find ways to effectively remove it using humic acid as a treatment method.
  • - Experimental results indicated that using 0.0330 g·L of humic acid at a pH of 3.80 and 34 °C for 40 minutes led to an 80.18% reduction in aluminum, while improving the levels of beneficial components like proteins and amino acids in the algae.
  • - Analysis showed that the adsorption of aluminum by humic acid involved various functional groups and occurred in three stages, highlighting both physical and chemical processes, ultimately providing a promising approach for removing metals from algae.

Biochar was derived from Eucheuma (EBC) at a temperature of 500 °C and the resulting biochar was modified using NaOH, KOH, NaOH + KOH and HNO + HCl. This study investigated the impact of these modifications on the characteristics of the biochar and its effectiveness in adsorbing phenanthrene (Phe) from an aqueous solution. The results indicated that the surface roughness increased, leading to an increase in the specific surface area, and the development of complex pore structure, leading to a decrease in the polarity and increase in hydrophobicity of biochar modified by a mixture of KOH and HNO + HCl (EBC-K and EBC-H).
