Background: Cancer remains a major cause of mortality and a significant economic burden in China. Exploring the disparities in cancer patterns and control strategies between China and developed countries may offer valuable insights for policy formulation and enhance cancer management efforts. This study examined the incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life year (DALY) burden of cancer in China, and compared these metrics with those observed in the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK).

Article Synopsis
  • Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common long-term neurodegenerative disorder with various psychiatric and behavioral issues, which presents a challenge for treatment.
  • Researchers created a bioactive hydrogel called OACDP that releases three different drugs at varying rates, targeting specific symptoms of PD while being injectable and adaptable.
  • Testing on PD rats showed that the hydrogel improved behavior and provided neuroprotection, such as reducing dopamine neuron loss and oxidative stress, suggesting a promising new approach for treating PD and similar neurodegenerative diseases.

Gallbladder carcinoma (GBC) is a malignant hepatobiliary cancer characterized by an intricate tumor microenvironments (TME) and heterogeneity. The traditional GBC 2D culture models cannot faithfully recapitulate the characteristics of the TME. Three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting enables the establishment of high-throughput and high-fidelity multicellular GBC models.

Amidst growing concerns over the greenhouse effect, especially its consequential impacts, establishing effective Carbon Emission Prediction Models (CEPMs) to comprehend and predict CO emission trends is imperative for climate change mitigation. A review of 147 Carbon Emission Prediction Model (CEPM) studies revealed three predominant functions-prediction, optimization, and prediction factor selection. Statistical models, comprising 75 instances, were the most prevalent among prediction models, followed by neural network models at 21.

For patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) and liver metastases, there is still debate about whether radiofrequency ablation (RFA) or hepatectomy is preferable. The present study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of RFA with hepatectomy in patients with GISTs and liver metastases. The present retrospective study consisted of a cohort of 43 patients who had been diagnosed with liver metastases from GISTs between January 2010 and December 2022.

This study investigates the expression and prognostic value of TRIM6 in gliomas, the most prevalent primary brain and spinal cord tumors. Our results show that TRIM6 is predominantly overexpressed in glioma tissues and is associated with reduced overall survival, disease-specific survival, and progression-free interval. Furthermore, TRIM6 expression is correlated with WHO grade and primary treatment outcomes.

Objective: Adopting a healthy lifestyle, including regular physical activity, is widely believed to decrease cancer risk. This study aimed to quantitatively establish the dose-response relationships between total physical activity and the risk of breast, colon, lung, gastric, and liver cancers.

Methods: A systematic review and dose-response analysis were conducted using PubMed and Embase from January 1, 1980 to March 20, 2023.

Introduction: Biliary tract cancer (BTC) comprises infrequently occurring neoplasms with poor prognoses. Red blood cell-related parameters are commonly reported prognostic factors. We aimed to compare and evaluate the clinical value of red blood cell-related parameters and develop a prognostic nomogram.

Purpose: The immune prognostic index (IPI) has been used as a prognostic biomarker in various cancers. However, the prognostic value of the IPI in gallbladder cancer remains to be determined.

Patients And Methods: This study included 139 patients who were diagnosed with gallbladder cancer after surgical resection from 2003 to 2017.

Systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is considered to be a prognostic marker in several cancers. However, the prognostic value of baseline pre-operative SII in gallbladder carcinoma (GBC) has not been evaluated. This study aimed to determine the prognostic significance of SII and generate a predictive nomogram.

The existing models for antitumor drug screening have great limitations. Many compounds that inhibit 2D cultured cells do not exhibit the same pharmacological effects , thereby wasting human and material resources as well as time during drug development. Therefore, developing new models is critical.

Purpose: Indicators to assess early liver damage and disease progression in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) remain unsatisfactory. Albumin binding function has been reported to be an early indicator of liver damage in hepatitis and liver cirrhosis. However, its role in NAFLD patients is unknown.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) can form new tumors and contribute to post-operative recurrence and metastasis. We showed that CD133CD13 hepatocytes isolated from HuH7 cells and primary HCC cells display biochemical and functional characteristics typical of CSCs, suggesting that CD133CD13 hepatocytes in primary HCC tumors function as CSCs. We also found that arsenite treatment reduced the viability and stemness of CD133CD13 hepatocytes, enhanced the sensitivity of HuH7 cells to pirarubicin, and reduced the tumorigenicity of CD133CD13 hepatocytes xenografts in mice.
