USA300 is an MRSA clone producing PVL, a toxin associated with SSTIs. ΨUSA300 is a USA300 variant recently identified in Japan by Takadama et al. (15).
The study focuses on MRSA strains in Japan that produce harmful toxins, specifically Panton-Valentine leucocidin (PVL) and toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 (TSST-1).
Researchers analyzed over 6,400 MRSA strains from various healthcare facilities and found 26 strains that were both PVL and TSST-1 positive, all falling under a specific genetic type known as clonal complex 22 (CC22).
The findings indicate that these ST22-PT strains, linked to serious infections, are genetically similar to strains from other countries, raising concerns about their potential international spread.
