Purpose: To evaluate postoperative outcomes after implantation of toric intraocular lenses (IOLs) made of high-water-content hydrophobic acrylic material in Japanese patients using a swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) biometer integrated with a surgical guiding system.

Patients And Methods: In this prospective observational study, toric IOL models CNW0T3 to CNW0T9 (Alcon) were implanted in 33 eyes of 33 patients and followed-up for one month. Powers and toric models were determined using an SS-OCT biometer ARGOS Ver 1.

Article Synopsis
  • - Some heterotrophic microorganisms, like Alcaligenes faecalis, use an enzyme called pyruvic oxime dioxygenase (POD) to convert pyruvic oxime into pyruvate and nitrite, a process part of nitrification.
  • - Research found genes similar to A. faecalis POD in various bacteria and fungi, confirming their functional activity through recombinant experiments, and classified these genes into three distinct groups based on phylogenetic analysis.
  • - Group 1 POD is connected to heterotrophic nitrification, but the roles of Group 2 and Group 3 PODs remain unclear; these groups contain genes associated with metabolism and regulatory elements suggesting possible unknown metabolic functions alongside nitrification. *

[Purpose] To study the effect that limbering up of the muscles attached to the pelvis has on muscle strength of the trunk and upper and lower extremities, which are not being exercised, and to investigate the possibilities for clinical application. [Subjects and Methods] A total of 152 healthy adult men. Sthenometry was conducted using a handheld dynamometer to assess the effect of limbering up of the upper gluteus maximus, hamstrings, and internal abdominal oblique muscles attached to thoracolumbar fascia on the trunk and upper and lower extremities.
