A rear emitter with a p-type boron-doped hydrogenated amorphous silicon/nanocrystalline silicon [a-Si:H(p)/nc-Si:H(p)] stack was prepared for the silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cell to improve its short-circuit current density (). CO plasma treatment (CO PT) was applied to a-Si:H(p) to facilitate the crystallization of the subsequently deposited nc-Si:H(p). To evaluate the effect of the CO PT, two different nc-Si:H(p) layers with low and high crystallinity (χ) were investigated.

Dipropyl phthalate (DPRP), a plasticizer commonly utilized in the plastics industry, has been identified in food and the environment and has the potential to present a hazard to human health and the environment. In this study, the first comprehensive evaluation of DPRP-induced craniofacial chondrogenic defects was conducted using a zebrafish model. Zebrafish embryos were exposed to 1, 2, and 4 mg/L DPRP from 6 to 96 h post-fertilization.

Article Synopsis
  • Germanium/silicon (Ge/Si) avalanche photodiodes (APDs) are important for near-infrared detection and quantum communication, but most research has focused on just one optical communication band.
  • This study introduces a lateral separate absorption multiplication (SAM) APD and looks at its performance across different wavelengths, finding that it performs significantly better at L-band (1600 nm) than at C-band (1550 nm).
  • The research shows a gain-bandwidth product of 279 GHz, revealing insights into why higher gains occur and suggesting that Ge/Si APDs could play a bigger role in optical communication technology.

Benzalkonium chloride (BAC) is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent that possesses cleaning and bactericidal properties, but impact of BAC on wellbeing of aquatic organisms remains uncertain. Consequently, in this current study, we have examined the immunotoxic potential of BAC in zebrafish embryos, thus marking it as the pioneering effort in this field. According to the findings, zebrafish embryos exposed to BAC exhibited a decline in yolk area that varied with the concentration, along with a significant decrease in the count of neutrophils, macrophages, red blood cells, and thymus T-cells.

Metal halide perovskites have attracted considerable attention as novel optoelectronic materials for their excellent optical and electrical properties. Inorganic perovskites (CsPbX, X = Cl, Br, I) are now viable alternative candidates for third-generation photovoltaic technology because of their high photoelectric conversion efficiency, high carrier mobility, good defect tolerance, simple preparation method and many other advantages. However, the toxicity of lead is problematic for practical implementation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to detail the clinical features and genetic factors of primary restless legs syndrome (RLS) in a Chinese population by examining data from 771 patients across 22 sleep labs.
  • The research found that a significant percentage of patients had family histories of RLS, with notable symptoms and polysomnography results indicating serious leg movements and sleep apnea issues.
  • Additionally, they identified seven new single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) linked to Chinese primary RLS, highlighting the genetic influence on the condition and the need for more extensive genetic research.

Background: The global increase in the aging population has led to a higher incidence of osteoporosis among the elderly.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the protective properties of pinoresinol diglucoside (PDG), an active constituent of Eucommia ulmoides, against dexamethasone-induced osteoporosis and chondrodysplasia.

Methods: A zebrafish model of osteoporosis was established by exposing larval zebrafish to dexamethasone.

In this work, GeSn lateral p-i-n photodetectors (PDs) on insulator were fabricated with an active GeSn layer grown by the rapid melting growth (RMG) method. Taking advantages of the defect-free GeSn strips, GeSn PDs with 5.3 Sn content have low dark current and high responsivities, which are about 0.

The increasing use of cosmetics has raised widespread concerns regarding their ingredients. Cysteamine hydrochloride (CSH) is a newly identified allergenic component in cosmetics, and therefore its potential toxicity needs further elucidation. Here, we investigated the in vivo toxicity of CSH during ocular development utilizing a zebrafish model.

Cysteamine, a sulfhydryl compound, is an intermediate in the metabolism of coenzyme A to taurine in living organisms. However, the potential side effects of cysteamine such as hepatotoxicity in pediatric patients have been reported in some studies. To evaluate the impact of cysteamine on infants and children, larval zebrafish (a vertebrate model) were exposed to 0.

Hexafluoropropylene oxide trimer acid (HFPO-TA), a novel alternative to perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), has emerged as a potential environmental pollutant. Here, to investigate the toxic effects of HFPO-TA on liver and biliary system development, zebrafish embryos were exposed to 0, 50, 100, or 200 mg/L HFPO-TA from 6 to 120 h post-fertilization (hpf). Results showed that the 50 % lethal concentration (LC) of HFPO-TA was 231 mg/L at 120 hpf, lower than that of PFOA.

In this paper, a carrier-injection electro-absorption modulator (EAM) at 2 µm is demonstrated on Ge-on-Si platform. The EAM shows a compact size and high modulation efficiency due to the strong free-carrier electroabsorption (FCEA) effect in Ge. A modulation depth of 40 dB can be obtained under the injection current of only 420 mA.

Colloidal all-inorganic cesium lead halide (CsPbX, X = Cl, Br, I) nanocrystals (NCs) are very important optoelectronic materials and have been successfully utilized as bright light sources and high efficiency photovoltaics due to their facile solution processability. Recently, rare-earth dopants have opened a new pathway for lead halide perovskite NCs for applications in near-infrared wave bands. However, these materials still suffer from serious environmental instability.

Two series of GeSn samples were grown on Ge buffered Si substrate by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) to investigate the influence of growth temperature and film thickness towards the evolution of surface morphology. A novel phenomena was observed that the GeSn film was segregated and relaxed by the formation of GeSn stripes on the film. Under specific growth condition, the stripes can cover nearly the whole surface.
