Background: Schizophrenia may be exacerbated by ambient air pollution. In this study, we aim to explore the association of air pollution with hospital admission for schizophrenia in Liuzhou, China.
Methods: The daily concentration of air pollutants was gathered from an average of seven fixed monitoring sites in Liuzhou, while the daily admission data for schizophrenia was received from The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Brain Hospital.
A study on yeast species from the genera and in southwest and central China was conducted based on morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses using the ITS region and the D1/D2 domain of the LSU rRNA gene. The research identified two new yeast species: and . The study contributed to understanding arthroconidial yeast diversity in fermentation and natural environments and paved the way for future taxonomic and ecological studies.

This systematic review evaluates the evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the effects of metformin on neurocognitive function in patients with schizophrenia.
Methods: A comprehensive search of Chinese databases (WanFang, Chinese Journal Net) and English databases (PubMed, EMBASE, PsycINFO, and Cochrane Library) was conducted to identify RCTs assessing metformin's impact on neurocognitive outcomes in schizophrenia.
Background: When human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) that CCND2-OE (overexpressed cyclin-D2) were differentiated into cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs) and administered to the infarcted hearts of immunodeficient mice, the cells proliferated after administration and repopulated >50% of the scar. Here, we knocked out human leukocyte antigen class I and class II expression in hiPSC-CMs (hiPSC-CMs) to reduce the cells' immunogenicity and then assessed the therapeutic efficacy of hiPSC-CMs for the treatment of myocardial infarction.
Methods: hiPSC-CM and wild-type hiPSC-CM (hiPSC-CM) spheroids were differentiated in shaking flasks, purified, characterized, and intramyocardially injected into pigs after ischemia/reperfusion injury; control animals were injected with basal medium.

In the survey of yeast diversity in high-temperature Daqu, which is a fermentation starter for Chinese sauce-flavoured Baijiu, six yeast strains representing one novel species of the genus were isolated from samples of Daqu and surrounding environments collected in Zunyi city, Guizhou Province, China. Phylogenetic analyses of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and the D1/D2 domains of the large subunit rRNA gene indicate that these six strains are conspecific with three other strains isolated from flowers and duckweed collected in Samoa, India and Thailand. The representative strain QFC-8 of the new species differs from the closet species resolved by the D1/D2 sequence analysis by 13 (3.

Due to the spatial heterogeneity of solid fermentation, significant differences occurred in the fermentation state and appearance features in different parts of Daqu during fermentation. Currently, the understanding of the underlying mechanism behind this phenomenon remains limited.

However, persistent CM proliferation could lead to tumor growth or the development of arrhythmogenic complications; thus, the goal of the current study was to generate a line of hiPSCs in which CCND2 overexpression could be tightly controlled. First, we transfected hiPSCs with vectors coding for a doxycycline-inducible Tet-On transactivator and dCas9 fused to the VPR activation domain; then, the same hiPSCs were engineered to express guide RNAs targeting the CCND2 promotor.

Daqu is mainly classified into three types, namely low (LTD), medium (MTD) and high (HTD) temperature Daqu, according to the highest temperatures reached in their fermentation processes. In this study, we used the PacBio small-molecule real-time (SMRT) sequencing technology to determine the full-length 16 S rRNA gene sequences from the metagenomes of 296 samples of different types of Daqu collected from ten provinces in China, and revealed the bacterial diversity at the species level in the Daqu samples.

A yeast strain (CGMCC 2.6937) belonging to the ascomycetous yeast genus was recently isolated from soil collected in Xinghuacun, Shanxi Province, PR China. The strain produces one or two ellipsoid or spherical ascospores in asci formed by the conjugation between a cell and its bud.

A Poisson generalized linear model combined with a distributed lag nonlinear model was used to analyze the effects of daily mean temperature on schizophrenia admissions from 2013 to 2020 in Liuzhou. Additionally, subgroup analyses were conducted to investigate possible modifications stratified by gender, marital status, and age.

However, coronary vasculature also has a key role in promoting cardiac repair. Thus, in this report, we used autoencoder algorithms to analyze snRNAseq data from endothelial cells (ECs) in the hearts of the same animals.

Mechanized processes have been increasingly employed in Baijiu production to replace traditional manual operation processes, however, the microbiological and physicochemical dynamics in mechanized processes remain largely unknown. Here, we investigated the microbial community succession and flavor compound formation during a whole mechanized fermentation process of light-flavor Baijiu using the conventional dilution plating method, PacBio single-molecule real-time (SMRT) sequencing and headspace solid-phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

The quality of Daqu is traditionally evaluated based on physicochemical and subjective sensory parameters without microbiological analysis. Here, we compared the physicochemical characteristics of qualified (QD) and inferior (ID) Daqu, their microbial communities based on plate counting and PacBio SMRT sequencing of rRNA gene libraries, and their impacts on Baijiu fermentation.

The primary objective of this investigation was to demonstrate that our specific modified mRNA translation system (SMRTs) can induce CCND2 expression in cardiomyocytes and replicate the benefits observed in other studies of cardiomyocyte-specific CCND2 overexpression for myocardial repair.
Methods: The CCND2-cardiomyocyte-specific modified mRNA translation system (cardiomyocyte SMRTs) consists of 2 modRNA constructs: one codes for CCND2 and contains a binding site for L7Ae, and the other codes for L7Ae and contains recognition elements for the cardiomyocyte-specific microRNAs miR-1 and miR-208.
The potentially unlimited number of cardiomyocyte (CMs) derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) facilitates high throughput applications like cell transplantation for myocardial repair, disease modelling, and cardiotoxicity testing during drug development. Despite promising progress in these areas, a major disadvantage that limits the use of hiPSC derived CMs (hiPSC-CMs) is their immaturity. : Three hiPSC lines (PCBC-hiPSC, DP3-hiPSCs, and MLC2v-mEGFP hiPSC) were differentiated into CMs (PCBC-CMs, DP3-CMs, and MLC2v-CMs, respectively) with or without retinoic acid (RA).

However, the effectiveness of the currently available tools for processing and interpreting these immense datasets is limited. We incorporated three Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques into a toolkit for evaluating scRNAseq data: AI Autoencoding separates data from different cell types and subpopulations of cell types (cluster analysis); AI Sparse Modeling identifies genes and signaling mechanisms that are differentially activated between subpopulations (pathway/gene set enrichment analysis), and AI Semisupervised Learning tracks the transformation of cells from one subpopulation into another (trajectory analysis).
