Here in this study we adopted genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to investigate the genetic components of the personality constructs in the Chinese Personality Assessment Inventory 2 (CPAI-2) in Taiwanese Hakka populations, who are likely the descendants of a recent admixture between a group of Chinese immigrants with high emigration intention and a group of the Taiwanese aboriginal population generally without it. A total of 279 qualified participants were examined and genotyped by an Illumina array with 547,644 SNPs to perform the GWAS. Although our sample size is small and that unavoidably limits our statistical power (Type 2 error but not Type 1 error), we still found three genomic regions showing strong association with Enterprise, Diversity, and Logical vs.

Immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM) has emerged as a new subgroup of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy in the past decade, associated with the presence of two autoantibodies against signal recognition particle and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR). We aim to analyze the clinical, pathological, and imaging phenotypes of the patients with anti-HMGCR myopathy in our cohort. Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neurodegenerative disease associated with severe muscle atrophy and weakness in the limbs and trunk. We report interim efficacy and safety outcomes as of March 29, 2019 in 25 children with genetically diagnosed SMA who first received nusinersen in infancy while presymptomatic in the ongoing Phase 2, multisite, open-label, single-arm NURTURE trial. Fifteen children have two SMN2 copies and 10 have three SMN2 copies.

In this study, a fast and simple fluorescent genotyping strategy, streptavidin magnetic beads combined with biotin-coupled PCR and restriction-fragment release, was developed for determination of nucleotide variants. This method was further applied for analyzing SMN1 gene in diagnosis of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). After biotin-coupled PCR, the streptavidin magnetic beads would capture the biotin-labeled SMN genetic fragments, and then the restriction enzyme of HPY188I could only digest and release the fluorescent end of SMN1 genetic fragment into the supernatant.
