Article Synopsis
  • The study compares two methods of liver transplantation from Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD) donors: normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) and static cold storage (SCS), focusing on the rate of ischemic cholangiopathy (IC) after six months.
  • Results showed that NRP had a significantly lower IC rate (1.2%) compared to SCS (9.5%), despite NRP being associated with higher-risk donor and recipient combinations.
  • Overall, the findings indicate that NRP may be a more effective method for utilizing DCD livers, leading to further exploration and improvements in transplantation protocols.

Peripheral Intravenous (IV) cannulation is a common clinical procedure conducted in most stroke patients during their hospital admission. IV access is crucial in the hyperacute and re-habilitation phases of stroke care for administering lifesaving treatments, conducting investi-gations, managing secondary risk factors and treating stroke related complications. Despite its importance, peripheral IV cannulation can cause several complications including infection, thrombosis, and pain.

Heart transplantation has significantly improved survival and enhanced the quality of life of patients with end-stage heart failure. Successful long-term outcomes are predicated on a collaborative effort among patients, transplant teams, and primary care providers (PCPs). Notably, PCPs are increasingly pivotal in post-transplant care, engaging in annual assessments, early recognition of complications, and referral, thus minimizing morbidity and mortality.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is predominantly the most recurring and devastating neurological condition among the elderly population, characterized by the accumulation of amyloid-β (Aβ) and phosphorylated tau proteins, and is accompanied by progressive decline of learning and memory. Due to its complex and multifactorial etiology, a wide variety of therapeutic interventions have been developed. Despite constant advancements in the field, effective treatments that ameliorate the severity of Alzheimer's symptoms or cease their progression are still insufficient.
