Heavy metals (HMs) are hazardous contaminants with persistence and bioaccumulation, attracting widespread attention. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) play vital roles in the pollution control of sewage, closely related to human health and the biological environment. Therefore, eight HMs in three typical WWTPs of Nanjing were determined in this study.

Chromatin remodeling plays a crucial role in controlling gene transcription by modifying chromatin structure. However, the involvement of chromatin remodeling in plant stress responses, especially cold tolerance, through chromatin accessibility remains largely unexplored. Here, we report that rice (Oryza sativa L.

Background/objectives: Chromatin accessibility is closely associated with transcriptional regulation during maize () leaf development. However, its precise role in controlling gene expression at different developmental stages remains poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the dynamics of chromatin accessibility and its influence on genome-wide gene expression during the BBCH_11, BBCH_13, and BBCH_17 stages of maize leaf development.

We report the first example of photocatalytic acceptorless dehydrogenation using cationic Eosin Y as a bifunctional photocatalyst, without metal catalysts or HAT reagents. Under Bayesian optimized conditions, a wide range of flavones were synthesized in moderate to excellent yields, many of which were reported with biological activities. Mechanistic studies suggest that flavones likely form through two HAT processes, with hydrogen release occurring photoredox.

Renewable electricity-powered electrooxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMFOR) to FDCA offers a green and sustainable approach to producing an essential monomer for bio-polymers, provided that a highly efficient electrocatalyst is present. Herein, we show that the doping of scandium (Sc) into an NiFe-LDH electrocatalyst (Sc-NiFe-LDH) considerably promotes HMFOR by enhancing the formation of high-valence Ni-O active sites, facilitating electron transport and HMF adsorption and suppressing the oxygen evolution reaction. In the presence of the Sc-NiFe-LDH electrocatalyst, an FDCA faradaic efficiency and selectivity of 96.

Electroplating sludge smelting soot (ESSS), contains high-grade value metals (such as Zn, Sn, Pb, precious metals Au and Pt) and large amounts of harmful elements Br and S, which could potentially cause valuable resources wastage and environmental pollution, therefore requires responsible recycling. An efficient and eco-friendly process for the cascade recovery of Zn, Sn, Pb, and precious metals Au and Pt from ESSS was proposed, combining NaOH roasting and acid-free aluminum salts leaching. Optimal NaOH roasting conditions achieved high extraction efficiencies for Zn, Sn, and Pb, which were then separated via water leaching.

The interleukin-33(IL-33) - group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) - interleukin-13(IL-13) - monocytic myeloid-derived suppressor cells (M-MDSCs) axis plays a critical role in promoting immune evasion in tumors; however, its specific function in cervical cancer remains poorly understood. In this study, we observed that the proportion of IL-33-ILC2s-IL-13-M-MDSCs were significantly elevated in both cervical cancer patients and the subcutaneous U14 cervical cancer mouse model, compared to normal controls. Our results suggest that IL-33 stimulates ILC2s to secrete IL-13, which, in turn, regulates M-MDSCs to enhance their immune evasion capabilities.

Electronic waste dismantling has induced the surrounding agricultural soils suffered from combined contamination of heavy metals and organic pollutants. Lower efficiency and complex mechanisms of bioremediation remain to be resolved. Here, we adopted regulations to Sedum plumbizincicola cross aboveground and belowground scales to strengthen the bioremediation efficiency.

Malignant mesothelioma is a rare highly invasive tumour originating from the mesothelial cells of the pleura, peritoneum and pericardium. Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is the most common type in all malignant mesothelioma. The onset of MPM is associated with exposure to asbestos and it can have an incubation period of up to 40 years.

The prevalence of social media has significantly facilitated the spread and diffusion of online memes. The Clubhouse voice community application, which gained popularity rapidly during the COVID-19 pandemic and became widely used, can be regarded as a form of internet meme. However, the underlying reasons for this phenomenon have been scarcely explored.

Superconducting diode effects have recently attracted much attention for their potential applications in superconducting logic circuits. Several pathways have been proposed to give rise to non-reciprocal critical currents in various superconductors and Josephson junctions. In this work, we establish the presence of a large Josephson diode effect in a type-II Dirac semimetal 1T-PtTe facilitated by its helical spin-momentum locking and distinguish it from extrinsic geometric effects.

  • A new eco-friendly water treatment agent, PASP/5-AVA, was created using polysuccinimide and 5-aminovaleric acid, showing superior scale and corrosion inhibition compared to its predecessor, PASP.
  • The agent's effectiveness is attributed to its ability to distort scales' formation and enhance its chelation with calcium ions, coupled with a longer side chain that improves metal surface adhesion.
  • The study utilizes various analytical methods to understand these mechanisms and aims to inform the development of sustainable anti-scaling and anti-corrosion treatments.

-Trifluoromethylbenzene (FB) groups have been widely employed in various fields; however, no studies have reported the use of FB in side chains to enhance the carrier mobility and molecular doping of conjugated polymers. In this study, based on density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we discovered that FB groups can effectively bind to [FeCl], the counterion of the p-type dopant FeCl, thereby increasing doping ability. Consequently, FB groups were incorporated into the side chains of thiophene-diketopyrrolopyrrole-based donor-acceptor (D-A)-conjugated polymers, and a series of random conjugated polymers were synthesized (denoted as PDPPFB-, where represents the molar ratio of the FB side chain).

The elders in China's rural areas are facing challenges in maintaining agricultural production due to the outflow of rural laborers. The Transfer of land could alleviate the burden of land-based livelihoods for rural elders, but their decisions regarding land transfer are influenced by their social networks within the context of Chinese rural society. This study investigates how social networks impact the willingness of rural elders to transfer land.
