Background: Globally, chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is a major public health concern. Timely and effective management can prevent disease progression to cirrhosis and reduce the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Currently, there is no consensus on the clinical management of CHB in East Asia.

However, developing a facile and effective approach to enhance the photocatalytic activity for practical applications is still highly challenging. Herein, we report a newly-fabricated perovskite oxide (Pr(BaSr)CoFeO) decorated with Au ultrafine nanoparticles for photocatalytic water splitting.

As poor glycaemic control is associated with increased risks of AD, we aimed to investigate whether glycaemia-related risk factors also differ between men and women, using a retrospective, sex-specific analysis of a large Chinese cohort with diabetes.
Materials & Methods: A total of 85,514 Chinese individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D; 46,783 women and 38,731 men), aged ≥60 years, were identified from electronic health records and observed for incident AD.

This study aimed to study the treatment and side effects of GLE/PIB in these patients infected with non-1 genotype (GT) HCV.
Methods: We prospectively recruited patients with Child's A cirrhosis and eGFR <30 mL/min/1.

China is advancing in its bid to internationalize higher education, but little is known to date about the life satisfaction of overseas students in that country. Life satisfaction can be understood as the extent to which individuals' experiences in a host country help them achieve their personal goals and satisfy their expectations regarding acculturation. This paper examines past research, especially international literature, to provide an overview of factors that may influence the life satisfaction of international students in countries other than their own, and looks particularly at those matters that may also affect overseas students in China.

Aim: To investigate the underlying mechanism of berberine's therapeutic effect on ALD associated with gut microbiota-immune system axis.
Background: Treatment cessation in chronic HBV infection may be durable in certain patient subgroups before hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) seroclearance. The role of serum HBV RNA in determining treatment cessation suitability has not been well-investigated.
Methods: Nucleos(t)ide analogue (NUC) treatment was discontinued in non-cirrhotic patients with chronic HBV with serum HBsAg <200 IU/mL and fulfilling internationally recommended criteria for treatment cessation.
Purpose: Glycemic control has been recognized as an important modifiable risk factor for diabetic retinopathy (DR). Whether hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), as an indicator of glycemic control, could modify the genetic susceptibility to severe DR remains to be investigated. This study aimed to investigate whether HbA1c could modulate the genetic susceptibility to severe DR in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes.

We describe a unique solitary kidney with duplex collecting system and vascular variation observed in an 86-year-old white male formaldehyde- and phenol-fixed cadaver during routine academic dissection. The left renal fossa was empty with an intact adrenal gland, and the right renal fossa contained a fused renal mass with apparent polarity between the superior and inferior regions and two renal pelves converging into a single ureter. There were three right renal arteries supplying the renal mass; the superior and middle arteries were noted to be postcaval and the inferior artery was precaval.

This is the first facility-level comparative study conducted for TFA.
Patients And Methods: The study enrolled 88 patients from 4 centers equally divided among the two cohorts.
Hepatocellular carcinoma remains a deadly disease with poor prognosis in patients with unresectable cancer. Trans-arterial chemoembolization is the primary locoregional therapy for intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma, with an estimated median overall survival of less than two years. For almost a decade, sorafenib has been the only standard systemic treatment for metastatic disease or tumors which progress or are considered unsuitable for locoregional therapy.

Major components of the cannabis resin are the cannabinoids and terpenes. Variations of cannabis terpene profiles contribute much to the different flavor and fragrance phenotypes that affect consumer preferences.

Methods: We enrolled and prospectively followed adult patients on dialysis between January 2016 and September 2018.
Background & Aims: Concomitant non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is common in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) infection, although its impact on liver-related outcomes remains controversial. We aimed to study the effect of hepatic steatosis on the risk of fibrosis progression and the likelihood of HBsAg seroclearance.
Methods: Treatment-naïve patients with CHB, normal alanine aminotransferase and low viraemia (serum HBV DNA <2,000 IU/ml) were prospectively recruited for baseline and 3-year transient elastography assessment.
Occult hepatitis B infection (OBI) refers to a condition where replication-competent HBV DNA is present in the liver, with or without HBV DNA in the blood, in individuals with serum HBsAg negativity assessed by currently available assays. The episomal covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA) in OBI is in a low replicative state. Viral gene expression is mediated by epigenetic control of HBV transcription, including the HBV CpG island methylation pathway and post-translational modification of cccDNA-bound histone, with a different pattern from patients with chronic HBV infection.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground & Aims: Nucleos(t)ide analogues (NUCs) effectively suppress serum HBV DNA. Previously, we have identified 21 patients with undetectable covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA) upon long-term NUC therapy. This study investigated the effect of NUC withdrawal in patients with undetectable cccDNA.

We investigated the longitudinal profile of HBcrAg in entecavir (ETV)-treated CHB patients with subsequent HCC development. We identified HCC cases diagnosed at ≥1 year after ETV initiation.

Aims: This study aimed to compare the cost-effectiveness of DAAs to standard-of-care pegylated interferon plus ribavirin (RBV) in treatment-naïve patients without significant liver fibrosis and to compare different DAAs in patients who are treatment-experienced and/or have advanced liver disease.
Methods: A Markov model was constructed to evaluate cost-effectiveness over a lifetime time horizon from the payer perspective.
