In this study, a biocompatible folate-decorated reductive-responsive carboxymethylcellulose-based nanocapsules (FA-RCNCs) were designed and prepared via sonochemical method for targeted delivery and controlled release of hydrophobic drugs. The shell of FA-RCNCs was cross-linked by disulfide bonds formed from hydrosulfuryl groups on the thiolated carboxymethylcellulose (TCMC) and encapsulated hydrophobic drug dispersed in the oil phase into nanocapsules. Moreover, the size and morphology of drug loaded FA-RCNCs were characterized by DLS, SEM and CLSM which indicated that the synthesized nanocapsules have suitable size range and excellent stability for circulating in the bloodstream.

This work aimed to seek a sustained drug release system based on poloxamer-based thermoresponsive gel for sustained release drugs to inhibit corneal neovascularization (CNV) after eye operations. Thus, we designed and prepared a thermoresponsive gel with a phase transition temperature from 22 °C to 25 °C. When the concentrations of poloxamer (P) was 18% (w/w) and ε-Polylysine (EPL) was 0.

The magnetic reduction-responsive alginate-based microcapsules (MRAMCs) have been developed successfully with thiolated alginate and oleic acid (OA) modified FeO nanoparticles (OA-FeO NPs) via a facile sonochemical method. The obtained MRAMCs could be used as multifunctional carriers for hydrophobic drugs targeted delivery and triggered release due to their merits, such as biocompatibility, non-immunogenicity, magnetic targeting drug delivery and reduction-responsive drug release. The MRAMCs were endowed with magnetic targeting function owing to the encapsulation of the superparamagnetic OA-FeO NPs, which was confirmed by transmission electron microscope and vibrating sample magnetometer.

Cornstalks are the leftover leaves and stems in a field after corn harvest. They are a potential biomass resource but are underutilized in agricultural production systems. To examine the chemical components in cornstalks and their corresponding functions, blocky cornstalks were treated in water at temperatures of 190, 210, 230, 250, and 270 °C in a high-pressure reactor.

In this work, a versatile folic acid (FA) decorated reductive-responsive ε-poly-l-Lysine (ε-PL)-based microcapsules (FA-ε-PLMCs) were designed and facilely assembled by using sonochemical technique. Cellular uptake experiment of FA-ε-PLMCs loaded with Coumarin 6 (C6) as a model of hydrophobic drugs implied that hydrophobic drugs encapsulated inside FA-ε-PLMCs could be delivered selectively into Hela cells via folate-receptor (FR)-mediated endocytosis due to FA decorated on microcapsules. Furthermore, the shells of FA-ε-PLMCs cross-linked by disulfide bonds were derived from sulfhydryl groups (-SH) under ultrasonication.
