Objectives: This study introduced the prime-and-rinse approach with an methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP)-containing primer to augment the performance of modified self-etch adhesives loaded with amorphous fluorinated calcium phosphate (AFCP) nanoparticles.

Methods: The modified self-etch adhesive was acquired by adding 20 wt% AFCP nanoparticles into Clearfil S3 Bond. An experimental primer containing 15 wt% MDP was prepared.

Article Synopsis
  • Endodontically treated teeth often lose substantial hard tissue, requiring post-and-core restorations for support, but there’s limited information on how remaining dentin thickness affects these restorations.
  • The study aimed to investigate the residual dentin thickness in mandibular premolars after such restorations using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and to assess stress distribution through finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Findings indicated that the buccolingual root diameter was generally wider than the mesiodistal diameter, with residual dentin on the buccal side being consistently thinner compared to the lingual side, and most teeth exceeded 1 mm of residual dentin thickness in various dimensions.

  • Dental caries is a prevalent oral issue that currently lacks effective treatment, prompting a study to assess the remineralization potential of two processes: polyelectrolyte‑calcium complexes pre-precursor (PCCP) and polymer-induced liquid-like precursors (PILP) on artificial caries lesions in dentin.
  • The study utilized various advanced imaging and analytical techniques, showing that the PCCP process significantly enhanced mineral content and mechanical properties of dentin lesions compared to the PILP process, which had limited effectiveness.
  • Ultimately, the results suggest that PCCP could be a promising method for successfully restoring dentin caries lesions, offering a potential new strategy for dental care.

Severe drug eruption is a severe allergic reaction to a drug, usually due to irritation with certain drugs. It may be present as a generalized erythematous maculopapular rash, a pleomorphic rash, with or without blisters and ulcers. To the best of our knowledgeto date, there is no report of estradiol valerate-induced severe drug eruption.

  • Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is a genetic condition that leads to tooth discoloration and enamel defects, resulting in challenges for dental rehabilitation due to widespread tooth damage.
  • A case study of a 30-year-old woman with hypoplastic AI shows successful full-mouth rehabilitation using lithium disilicate ceramic crowns, which improved her dental aesthetics and function over a 52-month follow-up.
  • The study suggests that increasing the occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) by 2-4 mm with these crowns can effectively manage severe cases of AI, although more long-term follow-ups are needed to assess the full impact of the treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how adding a specific compound (MDP-Na) affects the bonding strength and remineralization capabilities of certain dental adhesives.
  • Two experimental adhesives were tested against a commercial control, with the adhesives applied to prepared teeth to measure bond strength and observe the effects over time.
  • Results showed that the MDP-Na increased bond strength significantly in both short and long term, while the degree of conversion of the adhesives remained consistent across the groups tested.

Magnesium ions are highly enriched in early stage of biological mineralization of hard tissues. Paradoxically, hydroxyapatite (HAp) crystallization is inhibited significantly by high concentration of magnesium ions. The mechanism to regulate magnesium-doped biomimetic mineralization of collagen fibrils has never been fully elucidated.

Amphiphilic biomolecules are abundant in mineralization front of biological hard tissues, which play a vital role in osteogenesis and dental hard tissue formation. Amphiphilic biomolecules function as biosurfactants, however, their biosurfactant role in biomineralization process has never been investigated. This study, for the first time, demonstrates that aggregated amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) nanoparticles can be reversed into dispersed ultrasmall prenucleation clusters (PNCs) via breakdown and dispersion of the ACP nanoparticles by a surfactant.

Remineralized dentin with an antibacterial ability is still a significant challenge in dentistry. Previously, a polyelectrolyte-calcium complexes pre-precursor (PCCP) process is proposed for rapid collagen mineralization. In the present study, the expansion concept of the PCCP process is explored by replacing the calcium with other cations, such as strontium.

Dentine hypersensitivity (DH) is a common oral health issue and occlusion of the exposed dentinal tubules (DTs) is regarded as the most effective therapeutic treatment nowadays. However, it is still difficult to develop easy and effective strategies for deep occlusion of DTs. In this study, we develop a strategy for occluding DTs deeply and compactly via simple application of occlusion media including (poly-L-aspartic acid)‑strontium (PAsp‑strontium) and phosphate/fluoride.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the effectiveness of two common disinfectants, sodium hypochlorite and glutaraldehyde, on the disinfection of dental impression materials and their surface properties.
  • A systematic literature search identified 50 studies, with some focusing on disinfection efficacy and others on the effects of these disinfectants on impression materials.
  • The findings recommend using 0.5% sodium hypochlorite for alginate impressions and 0.5% sodium hypochlorite or 2% glutaraldehyde for elastomeric impressions, highlighting specific methods for optimal results.

Objectives: The study investigated the effects of an orthodontic primer containing amorphous fluorinated calcium phosphate (AFCP) nanoparticles on enamel white spot lesions (WSLs).

Materials And Methods: The AFCP nanoparticles were prepared and incorporated into Transbond XT Primer. Thirty-two human enamel slices were highly polished and randomly divided into four groups: no part covered (control), half covered with a primer containing 0 wt%, 25 wt%, and 35 wt% AFCP.

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of dexmedetomidine on postoperative pain and recovery time in obese patients.

Methods: A total of 100 obese patients with body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30 kg/m who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy under general anesthesia in our hospital from January 2019 to December 2021 were included and assigned into DEX group (dexmedetomidine group) and NS group (normal saline group). The bariatric surgery patients who were given normal saline pump were the NS group ( = 50), and the bariatric surgery patients who were given the dexmedetomidine pump were the DEX group ( = 50).

Peri-implantitis is a common reversible disease after tooth implantation, caused by a variety of pathogenic microorganisms. Based on non-surgical or surgical treatment principles, supplementation by local or systemic drugs might enhance treatment efficacy. Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) (ATCC 33,277) and Prevotella intermedius (Pi) (ATCC 25,611) were used as test strains.
