Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how electroacupuncture at specific points (Baihui and Shenshu) affects the expression of proteins related to autophagy in the hippocampus of rats with Alzheimer's disease.
  • A total of 48 male rats were divided into four groups, including a model group that received D-galactose to induce Alzheimer's, with some receiving actual electroacupuncture and others receiving sham treatment.
  • Results showed that the model group experienced worse cognitive performance and lower synapse density, along with increased levels of certain autophagy-related proteins, compared to the control group, indicating the potential benefits of electroacupuncture in improving Alzheimer's symptoms.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effects of pre-exercise acupuncture at specific points (Neiguan and Zusanli) on reducing fatigue in participants.
  • Fifty subjects were randomly assigned to an observation group (receiving acupuncture) and a control group (no treatment), with various measurements taken before and after exercise.
  • Results showed that the observation group experienced significantly lower fatigue scores, lactate levels, and heart rates after exercise compared to the control group, suggesting acupuncture may help alleviate exercise-induced fatigue.

We evaluated the efficacy and feasibility of the combination of gemcitabine plus vinorelbine in patients with platinum-based chemotherapy-refractory esophageal cancer. We enrolled 35 patients who received gemcitabine plus vinorelbine as second-line treatment after platinum-based chemotherapy failure between May 2009 and April 2012. Dosage: gemcitabine 1,000 mg/m(2) plus vinorelbine 25 mg/m(2); all drugs were administered on days 1 and 8 of a 21-day cycle, and this was continued until failure or unacceptable toxicity.
