The nitrogen doping (N-doping) treatment for niobium superconducting radio-frequency (SRF) cavities is one of the key enabling technologies that support the development of more efficient future large accelerators. However, the N-doping results have diverged due to a complex chemical profile under the nitrogen-doped surface. Particularly, under industrial-scale production conditions, it is difficult to understand the underlying mechanism thus hindering performance improvement.

Purpose: Realgar, as a kind of traditional mineral Chinese medicine, can inhibit multiple solid tumor growth and serve as an adjuvant drug in cancer therapy. However, the extremely low solubility and poor body absorptive capacity limit its application in clinical medicine. To overcome this therapeutic hurdle, realgar can here be fabricated into a nano-realgar hydrogel with enhanced chemotherapy and radiotherapy (RT) ability.

Article Synopsis
  • The study reveals that low glucose levels activate a specific version of AMPK, a protein that helps regulate energy metabolism, through the enzyme aldolase, which isn't bound to fructose-1,6-bisphosphate (FBP).
  • Researchers identified a small molecule called aldometanib that blocks FBP from binding to aldolase, leading to the activation of lysosomal AMPK and inducing beneficial metabolic effects in rodents.
  • Aldometanib demonstrated the ability to lower glucose levels without causing hypoglycemia, improve conditions like fatty liver disease, and even extend lifespan and healthspan in laboratory models, suggesting its potential as a treatment for metabolic disorders in humans.

In this paper, we establish a ZIKV model and investigate the transmission dynamics of ZIKV with two types of harvesting: proportional harvesting and constant harvesting, and give the stability of the steady states of both disease-free and endemic equilibrium, analyze the effect of harvesting on ZIKV transmission dynamics via numerical simulation. We find that proportional harvesting strategy can eliminate the virus when the basic reproduction number $R_0$ is less than 1, but the constant harvesting strategy may control the virus whether the basic reproduction number is less than 1 or not. Epidemiologically, we find that increasing harvesting may stimulate an increase in the number of virus infections at some point, and harvesting can postpone the peak of disease transmission with the mortality of mosquito increasing.

Coccidioidomycosis is most frequently diagnosed serologically, and the quantitative test for complement-fixing antibodies is considered prognostically useful. Because complement-fixing antibody testing is complex, labor-intensive, and poorly standardized, an enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA) alternative would be attractive. In this report, we restrict the complement-fixing, antibody-binding domain to a 200-amino-acid recombinant peptide of the known antigen.

Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate (FBP) aldolase links sensing of declining glucose availability to AMPK activation via the lysosomal pathway. However, how aldolase transmits lack of occupancy by FBP to AMPK activation remains unclear. Here, we show that FBP-unoccupied aldolase interacts with and inhibits endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-localized transient receptor potential channel subfamily V, inhibiting calcium release in low glucose.

AMPK, a master regulator of metabolic homeostasis, is activated by both AMP-dependent and AMP-independent mechanisms. The conditions under which these different mechanisms operate, and their biological implications are unclear. Here, we show that, depending on the degree of elevation of cellular AMP, distinct compartmentalized pools of AMPK are activated, phosphorylating different sets of targets.

It has been recently reported that trapping problem can characterize various dynamical processes taking place on complex networks. However, most works focused on the case of binary networks, and dynamical processes on weighted networks are poorly understood. In this paper, we study two kinds of biased walks including standard weight-dependent walk and mixed weight-dependent walk on the weighted scale-free treelike networks with a trap at the central node.

This paper investigates consensus dynamics in a dynamical system with additive stochastic disturbances that is characterized as network coherence by using the Laplacian spectrum. We introduce a class of weighted networks based on a complete graph and investigate the first- and second-order network coherence quantifying as the sum and square sum of reciprocals of all nonzero Laplacian eigenvalues. First, the recursive relationship of its eigenvalues at two successive generations of Laplacian matrix is deduced.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent studies show how AMPK gets activated in cells during low glucose conditions, involving a specific interaction between AXIN and LKB1 on late endosomes/lysosomes.
  • The lysosomal v-ATPase-Ragulator complex plays a crucial role when glucose levels are low, helping to bring AXIN/LKB1 together with AMPK.
  • The chapter outlines experimental procedures to track the movement of AXIN/LKB1 and how these complexes form, which is important for understanding AMPK activation under metabolic stress and its impact on mTORC1.

Article Synopsis
  • This paper investigates weighted scale-free treelike networks, focusing on how different weights influence the trapping process within the network.
  • It analyzes two types of weight-dependent walks: one standard and another that incorporates both nearest and next-nearest neighbor jumps.
  • The study derives exact solutions for average trapping time (ATT), showing that ATT varies with the weight factor, network parameters, and scales differently with network size, influencing the understanding of network dynamics and efficiency.

The major energy source for most cells is glucose, from which ATP is generated via glycolysis and/or oxidative metabolism. Glucose deprivation activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), but it is unclear whether this activation occurs solely via changes in AMP or ADP, the classical activators of AMPK. Here, we describe an AMP/ADP-independent mechanism that triggers AMPK activation by sensing the absence of fructose-1,6-bisphosphate (FBP), with AMPK being progressively activated as extracellular glucose and intracellular FBP decrease.

Hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs) are master regulators of adaptive responses to low oxygen, and their α-subunits are rapidly degraded through the ubiquitination-dependent proteasomal pathway after hydroxylation. Aberrant accumulation or activation of HIFs is closely linked to many types of cancer. However, how hydroxylation of HIFα and its delivery to the ubiquitination machinery are regulated remains unclear.

As part of the innate immune defense, the polarized conducting lung epithelium acts as a barrier to keep particulates carried in respiration from underlying tissue. Arsenic is a metalloid toxicant that can affect the lung via inhalation or ingestion. We have recently shown that chronic exposure of mice or humans to arsenic (10-50 ppb) in drinking water alters bronchiolar lavage or sputum proteins consistent with reduced epithelial cell migration and wound repair in the airway.
