Article Synopsis
  • Ganoderma lucidum (G. lucidum) is a traditional Chinese herb thought to help with mental relaxation and memory issues, possibly through its anti-neuroinflammatory effects via the gut-brain axis.
  • This study aimed to examine how polysaccharides from G. lucidum can help improve cognitive dysfunction, employing various extraction and analysis methods to characterize these compounds.
  • Results showed that the extracted polysaccharides (β-glucan) can reduce cognitive dysfunction by altering gut microbiota and inhibiting neuroinflammation through specific signaling pathways, while also boosting immune responses in the body.

Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are valuable bioactive polysaccharides with promising biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. In this study, we analyzed GAGs using HPLC-MS/MS from the bone (B), muscle (M), skin (S), and viscera (V) of (SM), (P), (LF), (G), (PB), (PC), and (CH). Unsaturated disaccharide products were obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis of the GAGs and subjected to compositional analysis of chondroitin sulfate (CS), heparin sulfate (HS), and hyaluronic acid (HA), including the sulfation degree of CS and HS, as well as the content of each GAG.

Soft materials that can produce electrical energy under mechanical stimulus or deform significantly via moderate electrical fields are important for applications ranging from soft robotics to biomedical science. Piezoelectricity, the property that would ostensibly promise such a realization, is notably absent from typical soft matter. Flexoelectricity is an alternative form of electromechanical coupling that universally exists in all dielectrics and can generate electricity under nonuniform deformation such as flexure and conversely, a deformation under inhomogeneous electrical fields.

Aspirin is a widely used anti-inflammatory drug. It is reported that a relationship may exist between salicylic acid content in plasma and saliva after taking aspirin. This study established a rapid, convenient, and safe method to assess salicylic acid concentration in human saliva.

Cellulose is one of the main raw materials for production of green ethanol, but the presence of the growth inhibitor furfural in non-detoxified lignocellulosic hydrolysates often seriously affects their utilization. In a previous study, we obtained strains of Candida glycerinogenes that were tolerant to furfural, but at concentrations above 2.5 g L there was a significant increase in the growth lag phase.
