The route of vaccine administration is associated with various immune outcomes, and the relationship between the route of administration and broad protection against heterologous pathogens remains unclear. Here, we found that subcutaneous vaccination with Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) promotes respiratory influenza clearance and T-cell responses. Group 1 innate lymphoid cells (ILC1s) express MHCII molecules and engage in antigen processing and presentation after BCG vaccination.

While transforming growth factor β1 is pivotal for the differentiation of nonpathogenic T-helper 17 cells, the role of transforming growth factor β3 and activin in steering T-helper 17 cells toward a pathogenic phenotype has been acknowledged. However, the molecular mechanisms governing this dichotomy remain elusive.

Oncolytic virus-mediated tumor rejection is highly dependent on viral replication in tumor cells to induce cell death. However, the antiviral immune response of tumor cells limits the replication capacity of oncolytic viruses.

Cathepsins are major lysosomal enzymes that participate in necessary physiological processes, including protein degradation, tissue differentiation, and innate or adaptive immune responses. According to their proteolytic activity, vertebrate cathepsins are classified as cysteine proteases (cathepsins B, C, F, H, K, L, O, S, V, W, and X or Z), aspartic proteases (cathepsin D and E), and serine proteases (cathepsin A and G). Several cathepsins were reported in teleosts, however, no cathepsin gene has been identified from Pacific cod so far.
