This study aimed to investigate the toxicity differences of the ethyl acetate fraction of Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix before and after vinegar processing and explore the detoxification mechanism of vinegar processing using non-targeted metabolomics. The changes in terpenoid components in the ethyl acetate fraction before and after vinegar processing were analyzed using UFLC-Q-TOF-MS. Normal rats were orally administered the raw and vinegar-processed ethyl acetate fractions of Euphorbia Pekinensis Radix.

Objective: Our study assessed the predictive value of heart-type fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP) for critically ill patients.

Methods: 150 critically ill patients admitted to the emergency department of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Capital Medical University, were included in our study from August 2021 to April 2022. Serum H-FABP, procalcitonin (PCT), lactate (LAC), and other markers were determined within 1 h after admission.

Four fractions of polysaccharides (TPP-1, TPP-2, TPP-3, and TPP-4) were isolated and purified from the pollen of Typha angustifolia L., and the structure of TPP-3 was furtherly determined by HPGPC (High Performance Gel Permeation Chromatography), monosaccharide composition analysis, methylation analysis and NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance). TPP-3 was found to be a homogeneous heteropolysaccharide with an average molecular weight of 5.

Polyphenolic acids are the widely occurring natural products in almost each herbal plant, among which rosmarinic acid (RA, CHO) is well-known, and is present in over 160 species belonging to many families, especially the Lamiaceae. Aside from this herbal ingredient, dozens of its natural derivatives have also been isolated and characterized from many natural plants. In recent years, with the increasing focus on the natural products as alternative treatments, a large number of pharmacological studies have been carried out to demonstrate the various biological activities of RA such as anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, anti-diabetes, anti-virus, anti-tumor, neuroprotection, hepatoprotection, etc.

Article Synopsis
  • The dried roots of Euphorbia kansui (EK) are effective for treating edema but have high toxicity, limiting their medical use.
  • A traditional method of stir-frying EK with vinegar (VEK) aims to reduce this toxicity, though the underlying mechanism remains unclear.
  • The study developed a rapid ultra-fast liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UFLC-MS/MS) method to analyze six toxic compounds in EK and VEK, demonstrating that some toxic components can be converted into less toxic forms, while assessing their effects on zebrafish embryos and the expression of aquaporin-3 proteins.
