Engineering fast-moving microrobot swarms that can physically disassemble bacterial biofilms and kill the bacteria released from the biofilms is a promising way to combat bacterial biofilm infections. Here, we report electrochemical design of AgONO microtorpedoes with outstanding antibacterial performance and meanwhile capable of moving at speeds of hundreds of body lengths per second in clinically used HO aqueous solutions. These fast-moving antibacterial AgONO microtorpedoes could penetrate into and disintegrate the bacterial biofilms and, in turn, kill the bacteria released from the biofilms.

Resistant bacterial infection remains a severe public health threat, and conventional antibiotic drugs work poorly in effectively treating infectious diseases. Here, we developed gallium-based nanodots (Ga NDs), consisting of specific disruption of bacterial iron ability, to treat multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria-infected diseases. The Ga NDs significantly suppress the proliferation of two typical MDR bacteria strains ( and ESBL ) compared with clinically used antibacterial drugs, including penicillin and levofloxacin.

Host defense peptides (HDPs) are one of the potentially promising agents for infection diseases due to their broad spectrum and low resistance rate, but their clinical applications are limited by proteolytic instability, high-cost, and complicated synthesis process. Here, we report a host-defense-peptide-mimicking β-peptide polymer that resists proteolysis to have enhanced the activity under physiological conditions, excellent antimicrobial efficiency even at high density of bacteria, and low cost for preparation. The β-peptide polymer demonstrated quorum sensing (QS) interference and bactericidal effect against both bacterial communities and individual bacterium to simultaneously block bacterial communication and disrupt bacterial membranes.

Objectives: We aimed to test the safety of the CDK4/6 inhibitor palbociclib in combination with the EGFR inhibitor cetuximab and the PD-L1 inhibitor avelumab in recurrent/metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (R/M HNSCC).

Materials And Methods: This phase I study enrolled eligible adult patients with R/M HNSCC into three sequential single dose-escalation cohorts of palbociclib (75, 100, and 125 mg) PO daily on days 1 to 21 of a 28-day cycle in combination with avelumab 10 mg/kg IV every 2 weeks and cetuximab 400 mg/mIV on day 1, then 250 mg/mweekly thereafter. The study followed a 3 + 3 design with no intra-patient escalation.
