The role of cancer stem cells (CSC) in oral cancer is widely accepted. Yet, the existence of CSC in dysplastic tissue and the molecular pathways of progression from dysplasia to malignancy remain to be explored. Our retrospective study aimed to analyze the presence of CSC in oral epithelial dysplasia and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) concerning two epithelial-mesenchymal transition markers: Snail and E-cadherin.

Introduction: The guidelines lack clarity on how to follow the patients after endoscopic treatment for vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). The most discussed question is the need for voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG). Risk-based approaches that consider patient characteristics, disease severity, or factors related to the surgery itself could reduce its use, but a satisfactory predictive model has not yet been established.

: The key components of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) are endothelial cells, pericytes, astrocytes, and the capillary basement membrane. The BBB serves as the main barrier for drug delivery to the brain and is the most restrictive endothelial barrier in the body. Nearly all large therapeutic molecules and over 90% of small-molecule drugs cannot cross the BBB.

Glioblastoma, with a low survival rate, is an aggressive and difficult-to-treat lethal type of brain cancer. Indomethacin (IND), a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, has antitumoral activity in many cancers, including gliomas. However, its poor aqueous solubility is a critical issue.

Background: To minimize adverse events of peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) collection in healthy donors, it is reasonable to limit the total dose of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) and/or the number of apheresis days without decreasing of PBSCs yield. Therefore, we have started to collect G-CSF induced PBSCs on day 4 instead of on day 5. So, we retrospectively aimed to investigate the results of this 4-day G-CSF administration.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to obtain real-life data on the use of antimyeloma agents, which significantly increase overall survival (OS) in multiple myeloma (MM) patients, in primary plasma cell leukemia (pPCL) patients with poor prognosis.

Materials And Methods: Data from 53 patients who were diagnosed with pPCL between 2011 and 2020 and who used at least one proteasome inhibitor (PI) and/or immunomodulatory (IMID) agent were analyzed retrospectively. Depending on the year of the pPCL diagnosis, 20% leukocytes or ≥2x10/L plasma cells in the peripheral blood was used as a diagnostic criterion.

Background: With recent advances in artificial intelligence, the use of this technology has begun to facilitate comprehensive tissue evaluation and planning of interventions. This study aimed to assess different convolutional neural networks (CNN) in deep learning algorithms to detect keratinized gingiva based on intraoral photos and evaluate the ability of networks to measure keratinized gingiva width.

Methods: Six hundred of 1200 photographs taken before and after applying a disclosing agent were used to compare the neural networks in segmenting the keratinized gingiva.

Objective: To present an ex-vivo bovine model for retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) training.

Materials And Methods: The model was specifically developed for a pre-congress course organized as part of the National Pediatric Urology Congress. The course involved a 2-day online theoretical segment followed by hands-on training.

Higher heating value (HHV) is one of the most important parameters in determining the quality of the fuels. In this study, comparatively large datasets of ultimate and proximate analysis are constructed to be used in HHV estimation of several classes of fuels, including char & fossil fuels, agricultural wastes, manure (chicken, cow, horse, sheep, llama, and pig), sludge (like paper, paper-mil, sewage, and pulp), micro/macro-algae's, wastes (RDF and MSW), treated woods, untreated woods, and others (non-fossil pyrolysis oils) between the HHV range of 4.22-55.

The global population growth has significantly impacted energy and raw material consumption, unmatched since the Industrial Revolution. Among metals, aluminium ranks second only to steel, with annual production exceeding 69 million tonnes. Due to its high demand, bauxite, the primary ore from which aluminium is extracted, is now classified as a critical material in the EU and the US, given the potential risk of supply shortages for essential applications.

Purpose: To reveal refractive errors, the relationship between refractive errors and optical parameters, and the effect of prematurity and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) on ocular development in school children with a history of prematurity.

Methods: Premature children aged 8-12 years were divided into 3 groups as those without ROP (Group 1), with ROP that did not require treatment (Group 2), and with laser-treated ROP (Group 3). Age-matched full-term healthy children were included in the control group.

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are quickly becoming efficient solar cells due to the effective physicochemical properties of the absorber layer. This layer should ideally be placed between a stable hole transport material (HTM) layer and a conductive electron transport material (ETM) layer. These outer layers play a critical role in the current densities and cell voltages of solar cells.

In this study, the reducing smelting of chromite concentrates by EAF-assisted metallothermic method was investigated. The effect of Al and Al addition amount, time, and the ratio of flux addition on the produced metal and slag compositions and metal recovery were investigated. It was seen that ferrochrome can be produced from fine-grained chromite concentrate by this method.

Machine learning approaches are alternative modelling techniques to traditional modelling equations used in predictive food microbiology and utilise algorithms to analyse large datasets that contain information about microbial growth or survival in various food matrices. These approaches leverage the power of algorithms to extract insights from the data and make predictions regarding the behaviour of microorganisms in different food environments. The objective of this study was to apply various machine learning-based regression methods, including support vector regression (SVR), Gaussian process regression (GPR), decision tree regression (DTR), and random forest regression (RFR), to estimate bacterial populations.

Introduction: Pretransplant inflammatory and nutritional status has not been widely explored in terms of its impact on autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HSCT) outcomes in lymphoma patients. We aimed to evaluate the impact of body mass index (BMI), prognostic nutritional index (PNI), and C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR) on auto-HSCT outcomes.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 87 consecutive lymphoma patients who underwent their first auto-HSCT at the Adult Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Unit at Akdeniz University Hospital.

The purpose of this study was to create a tool for predicting the growth of total mesophilic bacteria in spinach using machine learning-based regression models such as support vector regression, decision tree regression, and Gaussian process regression. The performance of these models was compared to traditionally used models (modified Gompertz, Baranyi, and Huang models) using statistical indices like the coefficient of determination (R) and root mean square error (RMSE). The results showed that the machine learning-based regression models provided more accurate predictions with an R of at least 0.

The aim of this study is to investigate the utilization possibilities of steel slags, basic oxygen furnace (BOF) and electric arc furnace (EAF) slags, as backfill material in coastal structures. Within the scope of the study, physical, mechanical and chemical properties of the steel slags were investigated and their potential to create environmental risks were evaluated. The results showed that soundness loss and filler content ratio were below the limit values for steel slags to be used as backfill material.
