Marburg virus (MARV) is a zoonotic virus that can infect humans and non-human primates (NHPs) and lead to a fatal Marburg hemorrhagic fever (MHF), while there is no approved vaccine or antiviral treatment for MHF. The nucleic acid vaccine has unique advantages, including fast and simple preparation, easy to follow the virus mutation situation, and less adverse reactions. Therefore, we constructed the DNA and mRNA candidate vaccines based on codon-optimized MARV glycoprotein sequence, and evaluated the immune effect in mice through ELISA, ELISpot, and Flow cytometry.

Article Synopsis
  • Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is a serious illness in Eurasia with no specific treatments currently available, highlighting the need for safe and effective vaccines.
  • Researchers developed three types of nucleic acid vaccine candidates (mRNA, naked DNA, and DNA in lipid nanoparticles) targeting the Hantaan virus to assess their potential against HFRS.
  • All vaccine candidates successfully triggered strong immune responses similar to an existing inactivated vaccine, with the mRNA vaccine showing a robust T-helper 1 cell response and the DNA-LNP producing higher neutralizing antibodies, suggesting that combining these vaccines could enhance their effectiveness.

  • Shuangshen Pingfei formula (SSPF), derived from Renshen Pingfei San, is being studied for its potential to treat pulmonary fibrosis (PF), but its exact mechanism is still unclear.
  • In a rat model of PF induced by bleomycin, the research assessed SSPF's effects through transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses, revealing significant reductions in inflammation and fibrosis.
  • The study found that SSPF affected gene expression and metabolic pathways, particularly arachidonic acid (AA) metabolism, and notably regulated the synthesis of epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs) in the lungs of PF rats.

Marburg hemorrhagic fever (MHF) is a fatal infectious disease caused by Marburg virus (MARV) infection, and MARV has been identified as a priority pathogen for vaccine development by the WHO. The glycoprotein (GP) of MARV mediates viral adhesion and invasion of host cells and therefore can be used as an effective target for vaccine development. Moreover, DNA vaccines have unique advantages, such as simple construction processes, low production costs, and few adverse reactions, but their immunogenicity may decrease due to the poor absorption rate of plasmids.

Vaccines has long been the focus of antiviral immunotherapy research. Viral epitopes are thought to be useful biomarkers for immunotherapy (both antibody-based and cellular). In this study, we designed a novel vaccine molecule, the Hantaan virus (HTNV) glycoprotein (GP) tandem Th epitope molecule (named the Gnc molecule), in silico.

  • The study explores how different types of green spaces impact land surface temperature (LST) during extreme heat events.
  • Researchers identified various green space patterns using morphological spatial pattern analysis and assessed their effects on LST through different modeling techniques.
  • Findings revealed that certain patterns, such as core and edge spaces, effectively cool their surroundings, while others like islets hinder cooling, emphasizing the need for targeted urban green space planning.

The green and efficient remediation of soil cadmium (Cd) is an urgent task, and plant-microbial joint remediation has become a research hotspot due to its advantages. High-throughput sequencing and metabolomics have technical advantages in analyzing the microbiological mechanism of plant growth-promoting bacteria in improving phytoremediation of soil heavy metal pollution. In this experiment, a pot trial was conducted to investigate the effects of inoculating the plant growth-promoting bacterium sp.

The ongoing advancements in lithium-ion battery technology are pivotal in propelling the performance of modern electronic devices and electric vehicles. Amongst various components, the cathode material significantly influences the battery performance, such as the specific capacity, capacity retention and the rate performance. Ternary cathode materials, composed of nickel, manganese, and cobalt (NCM), offer a balanced combination of these traits.

Background: Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) are prevalent birth defects. Although pathogenic CAKUT genes are known, they are insufficient to reveal the causes for all patients. Our previous studies indicated GEN1 as a pathogenic gene of CAKUT in mice, and this study further investigated the correlation between GEN1 and human CAKUT.

Background And Aim: Vancomycin, a glycopeptide antimicrobial drug. PPK has problems such as difficulty in accurately reflecting inter-individual differences, and the PPK model may not be accurate enough to predict individual pharmacokinetic parameters. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate whether the application of machine learning combined with the PPK method can improve the prediction of vancomycin CL in adult Chinese patients.

  • Municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) bottom ash has high mineral content that can be used as a valuable supplementary cementitious material (SCM) but poses challenges due to residual metallic aluminum which can negatively affect cement quality.
  • Weathering is commonly used to limit heavy metal leaching from this ash, yet it doesn't effectively remove small particles of aluminum, necessitating alternative removal methods.
  • This study focused on mechanical removal techniques, reporting a 77% reduction in metallic aluminum which significantly improved the performance of blended cement pastes and promotes the use of treated ash as a sustainable construction material.

  • High-temperature stress causes proteins to misfold, leading to toxic aggregates that can harm cell survival, while heat shock proteins (HSPs) help manage these issues by refolding or degrading the problematic proteins.
  • Researchers found that the heat-sensitive elongation factor Tu (MdEF-Tu) in apples enhances thermotolerance when overexpressed, resulting in improved photosynthesis and chloroplast stability during heat stress.
  • The study also revealed that MdEF-Tu forms aggregates with modifications and interacts with HSP MdHsp70, which prevents the buildup of harmful aggregates and supports the thermotolerance of genetically modified apple plants.

Water quality regulation is widely recognized as a highly effective strategy for disease prevention in the field of aquaculture, and it holds significant potential for the development of sustainable aquaculture. Herein, four water quality regulators, including potassium monopersulfate (KMPS), tetrakis hydroxymethyl phosphonium sulfate (THPS), bacillus subtilis (BS), and chitosan (CS), were added to the culture water of Oreochromis niloticus (GIFT tilapia) every seven days. Subsequently, the effects of these four water quality regulators on GIFT tilapia were comprehensively evaluated by measuring the water quality index of daily growth-related performance and immune indexes of GIFT tilapia.
