Objectives: Higher body mass index (BMI) is reportedly associated with improved prognosis of patients with various cancers. However, it is unclear whether this phenomenon, also known as the obesity paradox, applies to metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). We aimed to determine the prognostic significance of BMI in patients with mRCC receiving first-line therapies.

Treatment-free survival (TFS) is an important measure for this period, but no data are available for patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) starting first-line agents. Our aim was to analyze TFS outcomes for patients with mRCC starting first-line therapy.

Improvements in image quality and detection limits are required for the in vivo imaging. The aim of this study was to improve the quality of XFCT images by applying a deep image prior (DIP), which is a type of convolutional neural network, to projection images as a pre-denoising method, and then compare with DIP post-denoising.

Purpose: In this paper, we describe an algebraic reconstruction algorithm with a total variation regularization (ART + TV) based on the Superimposed Wavefront Imaging of Diffraction-enhanced X-rays (SWIDeX) method to effectively reduce the number of projections required for differential phase-contrast CT reconstruction.
Methods: SWIDeX is a technique that uses a Laue-case Si analyzer with closely spaced scintillator to generate second derivative phase-contrast images with high contrast of a subject. When the projections obtained by this technique are reconstructed, a Laplacian phase-contrast tomographic image with higher sparsity than the original physical distribution of the subject can be obtained.
Background: This study assessed the association of pathological kidney lesions with cardiovascular events in biopsy-proven diabetic kidney disease (DKD) with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study involved 244 patients with no previous cardiovascular events before biopsy, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥ 30 mL/min/1.73 m at biopsy (baseline), and ≥ 1 year of observation after biopsy.
Aim: Recently, substantial studies have been accumulated to indicate the important role of gut microbiota in diabetic kidney disease (DKD). The abnormal change of bacterial-derived products could imply specific injuries or play beneficial or harmful roles in DKD progression. In this study, we examined the presence and contribution of the Klebsiella oxytoca gene in the circulation of patients with DKD.

A more convenient marker would be useful in clinical situations including home medical care. Autotaxin is known to leak into the interstitium as vascular permeability increases during the progression of tissue fibrosis.

Morphologies formed by block copolymer self-assembly can be transferred into a wide range of inorganic materials, enabling applications including energy storage and metamaterials. However, imaging of the underlying, often complex, nanostructures in large volumes has remained a challenge, limiting progress in materials development.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the records of 92 patients who developed biochemical recurrence and received hormonal therapy as initial salvage treatment after radical prostatectomy for high-risk localized prostate cancer from 2005 to 2021. The castration-resistant prostate cancer-free survival rates from the commencement of salvage hormonal therapy were analyzed using log-rank methods.
We conducted a retrospective evaluation of the clinical outcomes and prognostic factors in patients with nonmetastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) treated with first-line androgen receptor signaling inhibitors (ARSI) in real-world clinical practice in Japan. Between 2012 and 2023, a total of 127 consecutive patients with nmCRPC received ARSI treatment. Overall survival (OS), metastatic-free survival (MFS), and prostate-specific antigen-progression-free survival (PSA-PFS) from ARSI initiation were assessed using the Kaplan-Meier methodology.

Objective: This study investigated the effects of d-alanine intake on amino acid metabolism and kidney function in healthy volunteers.
Topological defects-extended lattice deformations that are robust against local defects and annealing-have been exploited to engineer novel properties in both hard and soft materials. Yet, their formation kinetics and nanoscale three-dimensional structure are poorly understood, impeding their benefits for nanofabrication. We describe the fabrication of a pair of topological defects in the volume of a single-diamond network (space group Fd m) templated into gold from a triblock terpolymer crystal.

Patients And Methods: Using the International mRCC Database Consortium (IMDC), patients receiving first-line IO-based combination therapy were analysed.
Purpose: This study evaluated the dysregulation of TCF4 isoforms and differential exon usage (DEU) in corneal endothelial cells (CECs) of Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) with or without trinucleotide repeat (TNR) expansion in the intron region of the TCF4 gene.
Methods: Three RNA-Seq datasets of CECs (our own and two other previously published datasets) derived from non-FECD control and FECD subjects were analyzed to identify TCF4 isoforms and DEU events dysregulated in FECD by comparing control subjects to those with FECD with TNR expansion and FECD without TNR expansion.
Results: Our RNA-Seq data demonstrated upregulation of three TCF4 isoforms and downregulation of two isoforms in FECD without TNR expansion compared to the controls.

Introduction: Systemic and local therapies for patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) are often challenging despite the evolution of multimodal cancer therapies in the last decade. In this review, we will focus on recent multidisciplinary approaches for patients with mRCC.
Areas Covered: Systemic therapies for patients with mRCC have been garnering attention particularly after the approval of immuno-oncology (IO) agents, including anti-programmed death 1/programmed death-ligand 1.
A 78-year-old man with atherosclerosis was diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma by transfemoral angiography of the celiac and superior mesenteric arteries (SMA). After surgery, a serum examination revealed progressive renal failure with eosinophilia, leading to end-stage kidney disease, in addition to active gastric ulcers and pancreatitis. Cyanosis in the bilateral toes showed a cholesterol crystal embolism (CCE) in a skin biopsy.

The proposed network featured a pixel-wise water equivalent path length (WEPL) map of subjects with diverse sizes and 3D inner structures. The proposed U-Net model comprises two concatenated modules: one for generating a WEPL map and the other for predicting scatter using the WEPL map as auxiliary information.

Causes of death and age of death in individuals with and those without diabetes were compared, and associations between medications used and age of death were statistically analyzed. A total of 2326 deaths were recorded during the 10-year period.
