In the case of surface plasmons propagating at a boundary between a transition metal and a double-layer dielectric, there is a significant difference of optical loss for surface plasmons propagating in opposite directions. Utilizing this structure, it is feasible to fabricate a competitive plasmonic isolator, which benefits from a broad wavelength operational bandwidth and a good technological compatibility for integration into the Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC).

In this study, we investigated the effect of gefitinib on different phases of radiation-induced lung disorders in an experimental model.
Methods: The thoraxes of Wistar rats were irradiated on day 1 with a single X-ray dose of 20 Gy, and gefitinib (50 mg/kg/day) was orally administered from day 1 to 14.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFApical ballooning syndrome (ABS) is uniquely characterized by the acute onset of transient extensive kinesis of the apical and mid portions of the left ventricle without significant epicardial coronary artery stenosis, accompanied by chest symptoms and electrocardiogram changes similar to those of acute coronary syndrome. We report a case of ABS with severe coronary artery stenosis presenting as acute coronary syndrome after emotional stress. ABS should be considered a cause of left ventricular wall motion abnormalities even if a coronary arteriogram shows severe coronary artery stenosis.

It has a measureable solid angle range comprising about 50% of the total range and allows the magnetoresistance and spin-torque diode signal to be measured simultaneously at any angle to the magnetization. Patients: Data for patients who had undergone urgent left heart catheterization for suspected acute coronary syndrome were retrospectively retrieved from Keio University School of Medicine (KUSM) database in Japan and Lahey Clinic Medical Center (LCMC) database in USA between 2002 and 2007.
MRI of a female patient with genetically diagnosed I-cell disease at 2weeks, 4 and 8months revealed delayed myelination or hypomyelination with decreased choline on MR spectroscopy. Brain autopsy was performed 2h after death at 14-month-old. Immunoreactivities for myelin basic protein and proteolipid proteins, markers for mature myelin sheath, were reduced in the myelinated fibers and oligodendrocytes in the white matter, indicating the hypomyelination in the central nervous system.

We tested 495 male progeny of C57BL/6J males treated with ENU and untreated C3H/HeJ females using the open-field test and isolated behavioral mutant M101736, which exhibited a significant increase in spontaneous locomotor activity. We identified a missense mutation in the Tuba1 gene, which encodes the TUBA1 protein, and designated the mutant gene Tuba1(Rgsc1736).

The potential of iPS cells is having a significant impact on regenerative medicine, with the promise of infinite self-renewal, differentiation into multiple cell types, and no problems concerning ethics or immunological rejection. Human iPS cells are currently generated by transgene introduction principally through viral vectors, which integrate into host genomes, although the associated risk of tumorigenesis is driving research into nonintegration methods.

Peripheral blood was obtained from 467 individuals including 32 patients with MDS, and the respective neutrophil distribution patterns were observed using two light scatters [7-degree complexity (7D) and 90-degree lobularity (90D)].
