Esterases that can function under extreme conditions are important for industrial processing and environmental remediation. Here, we report the identification of a salt- and solvent-tolerant esterase, Dhs82, from a soil metagenomic library. Dhs82 prefers short-chain p-nitrophenyl (p-NP) esters and exhibits enzymatic activity up to 1460 ± 61 U/mg towards p-NP butyrate.

Lung adenocarcinomas are usually sensitive to radiation therapy, but some develop resistance. Radiation resistance can lead to poor patient prognosis. Studies have shown that lung adenocarcinoma cells (H1299 cells) can develop radioresistance through epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and this process is regulated by miRNAs.

Article Synopsis
  • Colon cancer is the most prevalent gastrointestinal cancer, with its primary pathological type being colon adenocarcinoma (COAD), showing a strong link between prognosis and the immune system.
  • A study developed a prognostic immune-related gene pair (IRGP) model using data from patient gene expression profiles, identifying 17 IRGPs significantly associated with overall survival outcomes.
  • The model effectively categorized patients into high-risk and low-risk groups, revealing worse prognoses for high-risk individuals and offering insights for potential treatment strategies.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are endogenous non‑coding RNAs implicated in atherosclerosis. The aim of the present study was to explore the function of circRNA‑0044073 in atherosclerosis. Reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction assays were used to measure the expression levels of circRNA‑0044073, microRNA (miRNA/miR)‑107, janus kinase 1 (JAK1), signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), B‑cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl‑2) and v‑myc avian myelocytomatosis viral oncogene homolog (c‑myc) in in blood cells from patients with atherosclerosis.
