Spatially-ordered 1D nanocrystal-based semiconductor nanostructures possess distinct merits for photocatalytic reaction, including large surface area, fast carrier separation, and enhanced light scattering and absorption. Nevertheless, establishing a valid photo-carrier transmission channel is still crucial yet challenging for semiconductor heterostructures to realize efficient photocatalysis. In this work, spatially ordered NiOOH-ZnS/CdS heterostructures were constructed by sequential ZnS coating and NiOOH photo-deposition on multi-armed CdS, which consists of {112̄0}-faceted wurtzite nanorods grown epitaxially on {111}-faceted zinc blende core.

Background: Pharmacological interference is considered to be a successful approach to inhibit advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) production and to block AGEs-induced diseases. Some synthetic medicines are effective for inhibiting the glycation reaction, but they cannot be widely applied in clinical as a result of their side effects and security concerns. Pomelo seed as a by-product from pomelo consumption is rich in bioactive compounds, however, a huge volume of pomelo seed was disposed as wastes, the comprehensive utilization of pomelo seed could not only generate valued-added products/ingredients, but also decrease the environmental pollution. In this study, the main active substance limonin in pomelo seed was considered as a high-value bioactive compound. The purification of limonin from pomelo seed was investigated, and the neuroprotective and mechanism were characterized.

Vegetable oils are increasingly replacing animal fats in diets, but malondialdehyde (MDA), a peroxidation product of these oils, has been regarded as toxic; this necessitated investigation of MDA formation during consumption. This study investigated MDA formation in four vegetable oils during frying French fries (FF) and fried chicken breast meat (FCBM) at 180 °C for 7 h. Results showed that MDA contents were lower in oils used for frying foods than in control oils, mainly because MDA was incorporated into the foods.

Infection with Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV) mutants lacking a functional p35 gene can induce host cell apoptosis, which provides the possibility to use the potential of these viruses in the biological control of pest insects.
