Objectives: To systematically evaluate the value of the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in predicting coronary artery lesions (CAL) in Chinese children with Kawasaki Disease (KD).

Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in databases including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data, China Biomedical Literature Database, and China Science and Technology Journal Database from inception to December 2022. The quality of the included literature was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, and a Meta analysis was performed using Stata 15.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of serum glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels in assessing the severity and outcomes of acute pancreatitis (AP), focusing on two groups: normal HbA1c levels (<6.5%) and high levels.
  • It was found that higher HbA1c levels correlate with increased disease severity, complications, and the risk of organ failure in AP patients, with the optimal cutoff for predicting organ failure at 7.05%.
  • The results suggest that better glycemic control may lead to improved outcomes in AP, emphasizing the importance of monitoring HbA1c levels prior to the onset of the condition.

Indoor biomass burning produces large amounts of small particles and hazardous contaminants leading to severe air pollution and potentially high health risks associated with inhalation exposure. Personal samplers provide more accurate estimates of inhalation exposure. In this study, inhalation exposure to size-segregated particles and particulate polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) for the biomass user was studied by deploying personal samplers.

In this study, paired surface soil and mature wheat grain samples were collected in the cornfields near the large Handan Steel Manufacturer; and the total concentrations and compositional profiles of the parent PAHs were measured, then the spatial distribution characteristics and correlation with total organic carbon fractions in soil were determined. Accordingly, a preliminary source identification was performed, and the association between PAHs in surface soil and wheat grain was briefly discussed. The median concentration of total PAHs in surface soils from the cornfields of Handan was 398.
