Objective: The artificial liver support system (ALSS) has been recruited as an available method for patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF), but its impact on the outcome of ACLF remains controversial. This study aimed to investigate the association between ALSS treatment and short-term prognosis of hepatitis B-related ACLF (HBV-ACLF).
Methods: This was a retrospective observational cohort study, and data were obtained from the Center of Infectious Diseases, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, between Mar 2015 and December 2021.
Absent in melanoma 2(AIM2) exacerbates atherosclerosis by inflammasome assembly. However, AIM2-mediated inflammation in diabetic cardiomyopathy remains incompletely understood. Here we investigate the role of AIM2 in high glucose (HG)- and diabetes-induced inflammatory cardiomyopathy.

Objective: To apply 6 predictive models on acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) patients treated with artificial liver support system (ALSS), and to compare their assessment values for the short-term prognosis of patients.
Methods: A total of 258 ACLF patients who underwent ALSS therapy between January 2018 and December 2019 were selected from the ALSS clinical database established by West China Hospital, Sichuan University, and their clinical data and 90-day prognosis information were collected. Cox proportional hazards model was used to estimate the association between the six predictive models, including Chinese Group on the Study of Severe Hepatitis B-ACLF (COSSH ACLF), European Association for the Study of the Liver--Chronic Liver Failure-Consortium (CLIF-C) ACLF, CLIF-C Organ Failure (OF), Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) ACLF Research Consortium (AARC) ACLF, Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) and Simplified MELD (sMELD), and 90-day mortality, which included death or receiving liver transplantation.
Ischemic preconditioning induced by brief periods of coronary occlusion and reperfusion protects the heart from a subsequent prolonged ischemic insult. In this study we investigated whether a short-term nonischemic stimulation of hypertrophy renders the heart resistant to subsequent ischemic injury. Male mice were subjected to transient transverse aortic constriction (TAC) for 3 days followed aortic debanding on D4 (T3D4), as well as ligation of the left coronary artery to induce myocardial infarction (MI).

Background: The progress of liver diseases may not stop after viral eradication. This study aimed to provide data on long-term prognosis of patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection who underwent pegylated interferon plus ribavirin (PR) regimen and achieved a sustained virological response 24 weeks post-treatment (SVR24).
Methods: Responders to the PR regimen in our hospital from January 2011 to June 2014 were enrolled and prospectively followed up.
Aims: To analyze the role of serum miR-125b-5p in reflecting liver damage and predicting outcomes in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF).
Methods: CHB patients with normal hepatic function (n = 100), moderate-to-severe liver damage (n = 90), and ACLF (n = 136) were included. Among hepatitis B virus (HBV)-ACLF patients, 86 and 50 were in the training and validation cohorts, respectively.

Objectives: To determine the prevalence and distribution of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in Mianyang.
Methods: Data were extracted from the 12th five-year National Science and Technology Major Projects-Integrated Prevention and Control of Major Infectious Diseases in Mianyang. A two-level logistic regression model was established to determine factors associated with HBV infection.
Objectives: Little is known about hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in China. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence, clinical characteristics, viral interactions and host genotypes of HBV/HCV dual infection compared with HCV monoinfection.
Study Design: A cross-sectional study.
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) prevalence has declined remarkably in children due to nationwide universal vaccination program for HBV in China. However, the persistence of immune response against HBV infection and the optimal time point when a booster vaccination should be performed remain to be elucidated. To assess the persistence and level of antibody against hepatitis B surface antigen (anti-HBs) in a representative population of age 15 and younger who received routine hepatitis B vaccination in Mianyang City, China.

However, few studies have compared them in terms of effectiveness and cost. Inpatients with isolated dcVSD who had undergone transfemoral device occlusion or minimally invasive surgical repair from January 2011 to June 2014 were reviewed for a comparative investigation between the two procedures.

Few comparative studies have been conducted of these three procedures.

To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of antiviral combination therapy with pegylated-interferon alpha-2a plus ribavirin (RBV) in patients with autoantibody-positive chronic hepatitis C (CHC) and to investigate the impact of the presence of autoantibodies on the treatment outcome. Eighty-six consecutive CHC patients who underwent a 48-week treatment regimen composed of Peg-IFNa-2a (135 or 180 mug/wk) plus weight-based RBV ( less than or equal to 65 kg, 800 mg/d; 65 to 75 kg, 1000 mg/d; more than or equal to75 kg, 1200 mg/d ). Prior to treatment (baseline) and at end of treatment (EOT; week 48), levels of antinuclear antibody (ANA), anti-smooth muscle antibody (SMA), anti liver/kidney microsomal antibody type 1 (LKM1), anti-La (SSB), and anti liver cytosolic-1 (LC-1) were detected by indirect immunofluorescence.

This prospective study included 58 HBeAg-positive CHB patients with resistance to ADV; 30 patients underwent telbivudine (LdT) plus ADV combination therapy and 28 patients switched to entecavir (ETV) monotherapy. After 48 weeks of treatment, the rates of hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA <3 log10 copies/mL in the LdT plus ADV group and the ETV group were not significantly different (73.

Background: Hemoperitoneum is associated with several emergency conditions and is especially evident when it occurs in patients with liver cirrhosis. This study aimed to assess the clinical characteristics of cirrhotic patients who did not have abdominal trauma or tumor but who developed hemoperitoneum.
Methods: We reviewed the clinical records of 1276 consecutive cirrhotic patients with hemoperitoneum at our center between January 2007 and December 2009.
In this report we describe a rare case of primary hepatic diffuse large B cell lymphoma in a 67-year-old man who presented with abdominal pain, deteriorated liver function, elevated lactate dehydrogenase. He was found to have diffuse nodular intrahepatic space-occupying lesion with normal α-fetoprotein and carcino-embryogenic antigen. The final diagnosis was made by percutaneous biopsy of the liver as the clinical manifestation not consistent with common liver diseases.
