Objective: This study aimed to identify risk factors associated with incision complications following the modified "L" approach for calcaneal fractures.
Methods: Data from 100 patients treated with the modified "L" approach for calcaneal fractures between January 2018 and December 2021 were analyzed. These included 52 cases in the poorly healing group and 48 in the well-healing group.
Two over 80 wasp stings male victims appeared severe abnormal coagulation were consecutively examined by thromboelastography (TEG) guided with heparinase during hospitalization. However, the cause of coagulopathy remains unsolved. Rats were applied to establish a wasp-stung animal model highly resembled the manifestations of wasp-stung patients.

In this work, transmission electron microscopy was employed to examine bent Si NWs prepared by asymmetric electron-beam evaporation. The asymmetric deposition of Cr caused the formation of nanosized amorphous-Si domains; the non-crystallinity of the Si NWs was controlled by the bending radius.

Background: Normally taking the surgery is the standard treatment, between sliding hip screw (SHS) and utilizing proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) for intramedullary fixation, it is still not certain which one work better for this type of fracture. Our purpose for this study was to determine the optimum choice of implant for a patient with an unstable intertrochanteric fracture.
Methods: In our hospital, a reflective analysis was conducted of all unstable intertrochanteric fractures treated with either a SHS or PFNA fixation between February 2015 and February 2018.
To widen the detection wavelength range and improve the detection sensitivity of SiC-based optoelectronic devices, the SiC/Ge/graphene heterojunction was fabricated by using wet transfer of the graphene following chemical vapor deposition. The Ge films on 4H-SiC(0001) have polycrystalline structure with nano-wire (NWs) and submicron spherical island (SIs) features. Due to the distinct light trapping effect of the Ge NWs, the SiC/GeNWs/graphene heterojunction has an absorbance of more than 90% in the 500-1600 nm range, which is higher than the SiC/GeSIs/graphene heterojunction.

The radioresistance of tumor cells is considered to be an Achilles' heel of cancer radiotherapy. Thus, an effective and biosafe radiosensitizer is highly desired but hitherto remains a big challenge. With the rapid progress of nanomedicine, multifunctional inorganic nanoradiosensitizers offer a new route to overcome the radioresistance and enhance the efficacy of radiotherapy.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe development of a new multifunctional nanomedicine capable of enhancing radiosensitization by photo-induced hyperthermia for the inhibition of cancer growth and metastasis is highly required for efficient treatment of cancer cells. Compared to the first near-infrared (NIR) window, the second NIR window light could provide a maximum penetration depth as well as minimizing autofluorescence due to its low scattering and energy absorption. Here, we report a new versatile theranostic agent based on ternary Cu3BiSe3 nanoparticles (NPs) modified by poly(vinylpyrollidone) (PVP-Cu3BiSe3).

The total lignans of Vitex negundo seeds (TOV) were suggested to play an important role in the treatment of arthritis.
Purpose: The aim of the study was designed to investigate the anti-arthritic effects of TOV on collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) in rats as well as its possible mechanisms.

Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), the most common bone cement, has been used as a graft substitute in orthopedic surgeries such as vertebroplasty. However, an undesirable minor crack in the bone-cement interface provoked by shrinkage during polymerization and high elastic modulus of conventional PMMA bone cement dramatically increases the risk of vertebral body refracture postsurgery. Thus, herein, a hydrophilous expandable bone cement was synthesized based on a PMMA commercial cement (Mendec Spine Resin), acrylic acid (AA), and styrene (St).

The,n the Si-DSL structures with 40 nm-p-Si/50 nm-n-Si multilayers were successfully prepared on 6H-SiC(0001) Si-face by chemical vapor deposition. TEM characterizations of the p/n-Si DSL confirmed the epitaxial growth of the Si films with preferred orientation and the misfit dislocations with a Burgers vector of 1/3 <21-1> at the p-Si/n-Si interface.

Adiponectin (APN) is a fat-derived adipocytokine with strong antioxidant, mitochondrial-protective and anti-diabetic efficacies. We hypothesized that mitochondrial dysfunction under diabetes may account for the oxidative stress in osteoblasts and titanium-bone interface (TBI) instability, which could be ameliorated by APN.

Clinical epidemiological investigations have demonstrated that hypertensive patients treated with β1-selective β-blockers have a higher bone mineral density (BMD) and lower fracture risk. Nevertheless, no fundamental studies have examined the relationships between β1-selective β-blockers and these effects.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcome in patients with neglected DDH who underwent individual procedures based on using three-dimensional computed tomography.
Methods: Forty-seven patients (59 hips) were treated using Pemberton osteotomy or Dega plus Pemberton osteotomy.

Objective: To investigate the biomechanical properties of porous bioactive bone cement (PBC) in vivo and to observe the degradation of PBC and new bone formation histologically.
Methods: According to the weight percentage (W/W, %) of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) to bioglass to chitosan, 3 kinds of PBS powders were obtained: PBC I (50: 40:10), PBC II (40:50:10), and PBC III (30:60:10). The bilateral femoral condylar defect model (4 mm in diameter and 10 mm in depth) was established in 32 10-month-old New Zealand white rabbits (male or female, weighing 4.
Background: Calcium phosphate cement (CPC) can be molded or injected to form a scaffold in situ, which intimately conforms to complex bone defects. Bioactive glass (BG) is known for its unique ability to bond to living bone and promote bone growth. However, it was not until recently that literature was available regarding CPC-BG applied as an injectable graft.

Objective: To investigate the biomechanical stability of pedicle screws augmented by BG in osteoporotic sheep and observe the bone-screw interface histologically.
Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors are widely prescribed to regulate blood pressure. High doses of orally administered perindopril have previously been shown to improve fracture healing in a mouse femur fracture model. In this study, perindopril was administered directly to the fracture area with the goal of stimulating fracture repair.
