Two unprecedented sesquiterpene and monoterpene heterodimers and ten previously undescribed sesquiterpenoids, artemordosins A-L (1-12), as well as ten known sesquiterpenoids (13-22), were obtained from Artemisia ordosica. Their structures were elucidated based on comprehensive analyses of NMR, IR, HRESIMS, GIAO NMR calculations with DP4+ probability analysis, and ECD calculations. Notably, artemordosins A and B (1 and 2) were the first examples of cadinane-monoterpene dimers, and artemordosin A (1) was a cadinane-myrceane heterodimer with a 6/6/6/6 ring system formed by [4 + 2] cycloaddition, while artemordosin B (2) was a 4,5-seco-cadinane-artemisane dimer connected through a C-5-O-C-4' linkage.

This study investigated the mechanism by which ginsenoside Rg_(1 )attenuates hypoxia/reoxygenation(H/R) injury in HL-1 cardiomyocytes by inhibiting the acetylation of ATP synthase subunit alpha(ATP5A1) through silent information regulator 3(SIRT3). In this study, an H/R injury model was constructed by hypoxia for 6 h and reoxygenation for 2 h in HL-1 cardiomyocytes. First, the optimal effective concentration of ginsenoside Rg_1 was determined using a cell viability assay kit.

Cyclic guanosine monophosphate (GMP)-adenosine monophosphate (AMP) synthase (cGAS) detects viral or endogenous DNA, activating the innate immune response to infections and autoimmune diseases. Upon binding to double-stranded DNA, cGAS synthesizes 2'3' cGMP-AMP, which triggers type I interferon production. Besides its presence in the cytosol and nucleus, cGAS is found at the plasma membrane, although its significance remains unclear.

Evaluating students' learning effectiveness is of great importance for gaining a deeper understanding of the learning process, accurately diagnosing learning barriers, and developing effective teaching strategies. Emotion, as a key factor influencing learning outcomes, provides a novel perspective for identifying cognitive states and emotional experiences. However, traditional evaluation methods suffer from one sidedness in feature extraction and high complexity in model construction, often making it difficult to fully explore the deep value of emotional data.

Sensors operating in extreme environments are currently a focal point of global research. Extreme environmental conditions, such as overload, vibration, corrosion, high pressure, high temperature, and radiation, can affect the performance of sensors to the point of failure. It is noteworthy that, compared to the resistance to overload and vibration achieved through structural design, the application of sensors under high-temperature and radiation extreme conditions poses a greater challenge.

Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is often considered an ideal reinforcing material due to its extraordinary characteristics like high abrasion resistance, excellent toughness, and chemical stability. However, the poor surface properties have significantly hindered the progress of UHMWPE with high performance. This review is intended to introduce the physicochemical mechanisms of UHMWPE interfacial property modification.

In recent years, probiotics, as a class of biologically active microorganisms, have increasingly attracted attention for their potential in treating neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs). To comprehensively assess the effects of probiotics on clinical symptoms and systemic inflammation regulation in various NDDs, this systematic review conducted a detailed search of the Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed, and Web of Science databases, ultimately including 22 eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs), with 4 RCTs for Alzheimer's Disease (AD), 10 RCTs for Parkinson's Disease (PD), 2 RCTs for Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and 2 RCTs for Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and intervention durations ranging from 4 to 16 weeks. The comprehensive analysis indicates that probiotics help improve clinical symptoms related to NDDs, including gastrointestinal function, cognitive function, quality of life, and mental health.

Elevated lipid metabolism is one of hallmarks of malignant tumors. Lipids not only serve as essential structural components of biological membranes but also provide energy and substrates for the proliferation of cancer cells and tumor growth. Cancer cells meet their lipid needs by coordinating the processes of lipid absorption, synthesis, transport, storage, and catabolism.

As China's population continues to age rapidly, smart elderly care has become a crucial strategy for addressing this societal challenge. Smart home systems have the potential to significantly enhance the quality of life, safety, and autonomy of the elderly. However, the adoption rate of these systems in this demographic remains relatively low, requiring an exploration of the key factors influencing the behavioral intention to use such systems.

Diatoms rely on fucoxanthin chlorophyll a/c-binding proteins (FCPs) for light harvesting and energy quenching under marine environments. Here we report two cryo-electron microscopic structures of photosystem I (PSI) with either 13 or five fucoxanthin chlorophyll a/c-binding protein Is (FCPIs) at 2.78 and 3.

While robotic control of catheter motion can improve tip positioning accuracy, hysteresis arising from tendon friction and flexural deformation degrades kinematic modeling accuracy. In this paper, we compare the capabilities of three types of models for representing the forward and inverse kinematic maps of a clinical single-tendon cardiac catheter. Classical hysteresis models, neural networks and hybrid combinations of the two are included.

Article Synopsis
  • Proper T-cell metabolism is essential for an effective immune response, but disruptions can lead to diseases like cancer and autoimmune disorders.
  • The study identifies MYO1F as crucial for T-cell activation and shows that knocking out Myo1f in mice increases tumor burden and affects autoimmune disease severity due to impaired T-cell function.
  • The research also demonstrates how MYO1F regulation influences glycolysis and T-cell growth, particularly in the context of a fusion protein related to a type of lymphoma, indicating potential therapeutic targets for treatment.

Autophagy is a catabolic process that has been conserved throughout evolution, serving to degrade and recycle cellular components and damaged organelles. Autophagy is activated under various stress conditions, such as nutrient deprivation, viral infections, and genotoxic stress, and operates in conjunction with other stress response pathways to mitigate oxidative damage and maintain cellular homeostasis. One such pathway is the Nrf2-Keap1-ARE signaling axis, which functions as an intrinsic antioxidant defense mechanism and has been implicated in cancer chemoprevention, tumor progression, and drug resistance.

Inflammatory cells infiltration in the cerebrospinal fluid is a hallmark of severe enterovirus 71 (EV71) infection, but which type of immune cells are critical for severe EV71 infection remains unclear. Here, we observe that both neutrophils and macrophages are increased in the brains of patients and mice with severe EV71 infection, and the depletion of neutrophils but not macrophages results in a marked enhancement of survival of EV71-infected mice. Furthermore, CCR1/3 may play an important role in CCL3 facilitating the accumulation of neutrophils in the brains of patients.

Atomically thin two-dimensional (2D) materials are promising platforms to explore the unusual physical and chemical properties in surface chemistry, various catalysis, and devices. Most 2D materials derive from inherently layer-structured compounds through top-down exfoliation, but it is usually challenging to directly prepare ultrathin nanosheets of non-layered materials. TiO contains at least 8 non-layered polymorphs, and some of them have found wide applications in heterogeneous catalysis, photocatalysis, solar cells, lithium-ion batteries, In this review, we summarize typical bottom-up wet-chemistry synthetic systems of atomically thin TiO nanosheets.
